Job Summary:
As a Locum Dentist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive dental care and services to incarcerated individuals within the facility. Your primary goal will be to assess, diagnose, and treat dental conditions, promoting oral health and ensuring the well-being of the inmates under your care. You will work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to deliver quality dental services within the correctional setting.
Job Responsibilities:
· Conduct thorough dental examinations to assess the oral health status of inmates, identify dental issues, and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
· Perform a wide range of dental treatments, including but not limited to fillings, extractions, root canal therapy, crowns, bridges, and other dental restorations as required.
· Educate inmates about oral hygiene practices, preventive dental care, and the importance of maintaining good oral health.
· Provide immediate dental care for inmates experiencing dental emergencies, relieving pain, and addressing urgent dental conditions promptly.
· Implement strict infection control protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic dental environment, following industry standards and correctional facility guidelines.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date dental records for all inmates treated, documenting procedures, treatment plans, and progress notes.
· Collaborate with medical and mental health staff to refer inmates to specialists for further evaluation or treatment as necessary.
· Ensure proper maintenance of dental equipment and instruments, and manage dental supplies to support efficient and effective dental care delivery.
· Adhere to all applicable state laws, federal regulations, and correctional facility policies related to dental care and practice.
· Stay updated on the latest advancements in dentistry and relevant corrections-specific practices to enhance the quality of dental services provided.
· Work closely with other healthcare professionals within the correctional facility, participating in interdisciplinary meetings and contributing to the overall well-being of inmates.
Job Requirements:
· Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.
· Valid state dental license and any other necessary certifications required to practice dentistry.
· Previous experience in general dentistry, public health dentistry, or correctional facility dentistry is preferred but not mandatory.
· Provide supplemental dental staff, on-site at correctional facilities, with limited advance notice, for any shift and for 1 to 4 days-a-week operation with 8 hours a day
· Proficient in diagnosing and treating dental conditions, including oral surgery procedures.
· Excellent communication skills to interact with inmates, staff, and other healthcare professionals effectively.
· Ability to work in a secure and structured environment and adhere to correctional facility policies and procedures.
· Strong ethical principles and a commitment to providing compassionate and non-discriminatory dental care.
