Purpose of Role

The purpose of the Lead Floor Assistant is to serve as a point person and assistant to the Shift Manager. This lead role is responsible for overseeing a set of machines and performing various functions to ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently. The lead floor assistant will also act as trainer for onboarding new production operators and floor assistants.

Areas of Accountabilities

People Development and Engagement

  • Deliver key training daily and as part of our onboarding standard to production operators and floor assistants.
  • Understand the daily work that all associates are exposed to and provide resources to eliminate gaps.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Escalate employee suggestions and concerns to management to support resolution.
  • Provide instruction and informal advice to support team member skill development.

Production Shift Team Operations and Productivity

  • Lead Safety, Food Safety, and Sanitation regulations.
  • Perform start up and shut down activities for all machines, water, air, and material systems in the work area.
  • Perform setup for production changes to ensure everything is in line with customer specifications. This includes setting up brand plates and hot stamping machines, performing color and material changes, verifying, and adjusting material blends.
  • Perform work according to standards and verify that machine operators are following safety standards and product work instructions.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine and processing problems.
  • Monitor alternative material usage and verify machines are running to standard cycles.
  • Ensure work cells are stocked with all necessary components.
  • Perform production operator duties on any machine, filling in as needed and during breaks.
  • Perform end of day duties before the next shift takeover
  • Maintain and oversee cleanliness and organization of work area (5S)
  • Complete all production operations in the Spotlight application.
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Requisition repair services using UpKeep.
  • Observe work and monitor indicators to ensure that operators adhere to production standards.
  • Perform Shift Manager’s responsibilities as requested, acting as sole authority in the plant in the absence of a Shift Manager.

Communication and Relationship Building

  • Cascade information effectively and provide open lines of communication from management to all levels of the production team.
  • Work cross functionally with other floor assistants to coordinate activities within or between departments.
  • Perform shift handoff meeting with incoming floor assistants.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Preferred experience in injection molding facility.
  • Forklift training certification preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to interact with and train a diverse group of personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work cross functionally.
