At Ports America, the Learning & Development Manager is responsible for supporting the company strategy to drive a high-performance learning culture.  The L&D Manager will design, implement, and administer sustainable training and development programs.  This “hands-on” management role will partner closely with key stakeholders as well as our Human Resources team to identify needs and develop learning solutions aligned with Ports America’s strategy.

Essential Duties:

 

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Implement a comprehensive learning and development strategy aligned with Port America’s overall goals and objectives.
  • Drive key priorities, initiatives, and long-term plans to progress the learning and development function.
  • Partner with Leadership and HR to define changing learning opportunities and alignment of programs to improve participant performance outcomes. Ensures that both long-term planning and short-term delivery are accomplished.
  • Build systems to confirm the effectiveness and impact of learning initiatives.

Program Design & Implementation:

  • Develop new learning & development programs and review current development programs to ensure alignment to company goals.
  • Partner with leadership to develop a learning culture across the organization that cultivates an engaged workforce, supports our company culture and results in reduced turnover.
  • Deploy an effective Learning and Development communications strategy ensuring awareness and access to key offerings.

Learning Trends, Technology & Evaluation:

  • Create a learning & development scorecard using data to track results; identify areas of improvement through needs analysis, benchmarking, and best practice reviews.
  • Identify learning & development requirements by conducting needs analysis on technology and organization results, performance gaps, job requirements, operational problems, company plans and forecasts, and current training programs.
  • Utilize cutting edge learning technology to support company training needs.
  • Develop methods and tools to measure development and training initiative impact and effectiveness across the organization, including performance and retention.
  • Research and engage outside sources for training as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in Learning & Development, instructional design, and/or talent management with a focus on training design, delivery, and program management.
  • Experience in managing learning and development programs supporting an Operational workforce.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, editing and listening with proven presentation/training experience in order to clearly communicate and influence complex concepts in a compelling, concise, and creative way to internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ATD Certification / APTD – Associate Professional in Talent Development
  • Experience in the Maritime or Transportation Industry
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize and bring tasks to completion.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative, team environment as well as a distributed workforce organization.
  • Navigate an evolving workplace.
  • Travel – 10%
