Frank Design is the Experiential Graphic Design (EGD) studio at Perkins Eastman, a global design firm. Founded in 2020, Frank Design was established to serve as successor to our former affiliate graphics firm, Russell Design. Over the last 3 years this initiative has built a portfolio of exciting work both supporting the various studios within Perkins Eastman as well as generating an independent client list.

The Frank Design studio services our existing clients, working alongside colleagues at Perkins Eastman to complement the firm’s work by providing wayfinding, signage, and environmental branding for clients, both here and overseas, providing smart, innovative, and effective design.

We are seeking an outstanding senior level designer with7 -10 years of full-time experience to join Frank Design–A Perkins Eastman Studio. Our ideal candidate is proactive, self-motivated, energetic, and an all-around team player.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in communications or graphic design, architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with EGD projects including branded environments, interpretive programs, wayfinding systems, information design, and identity. Multimedia installations, and UI/UX experience a plus.
  • Experience with project management: scoping, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, CAD tools, and 3D design programs (SketchUp, Rhino, Revit). Additional platform experience for UI/UX, font creation/ manipulation, a plus but not required.
  • Experience with reading and drawing construction documents in scale.
  • ADA and building code knowledge/experience.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates the ability to develop cohesive concepts and narratives, strong typographic sense, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to clearly communicate design process and concepts with clients, fabricators, and other team members.
  • Efficient time management and effective organizational skills for managing multiple projects at any given time.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members in other Perkins Eastman locations.
  • Passionate about art and design and brings outside experience, interests and inspiration to our team and projects.

Required Tasks:

  • Direct all phases of design and EGD fabrication process from initial strategy and concept development to installation and on-site supervision.
  • Manage client and fabricator relationships, with oversight from the Creative Director in charge of the Frank Design studio.
  • Lead team through design exploration and preparation of design documents and client presentations, with oversight from the Creative Director.
  • Mentor and develop other team members.

Design

  • Strong signage experience, including knowledge of materials and fabrication methods.
  • Conducts in-depth contextual research for projects.
  • Pro-actively leads internal design charettes with team and provides creative direction to supporting team members.
  • Develops key themes, narratives, and design concepts with strong typographic sense and attention to detail during strategy and design phases through hand sketching, illustrating, and creating 2D and 3D visualization boards.
  • Presents design narratives and concepts to team.
  • Designs clear diagrams, information graphics, and brand identities.
  • Oversees the development and management of all design documents and presentations from project kick-off through closeout, with oversight from the Creative Director.
  • Conducts quality control of all documents and deliverables prior to issue and/or presentation, both internally and client-facing.
  • Provides Creative Director opportunity to review all final deliverables for final quality control prior to issue–considers review and revision time when developing project schedules and delegating workload responsibilities.
  • Prepares bid documents and production-ready artwork.
  • Participates in reviewing graphic layouts, construction documentation, mock-ups and prototypes, and production ready artwork during CA Phases, with oversight from the Creative Director.
  • Conducts project punch-lists and produces punch-list reports, as required.

Project Management

  • Owns and drives multiple design projects across various studios, from inception to completion, under the guidance of the Creative Director. This includes creating and managing all drawings and documents, ensuring complete ownership of every aspect of the projects.
  • Takes the initiative in delegating and supervising daily/weekly tasks across the team, with a clear understanding of key project milestones for multiple projects across different studios. Ensures timely delivery of all submissions within the specified timeframe, without compromising on quality or detail, while also seizing occasional opportunities to delegate tasks.
  • Ensures all project schedules reflect the latest milestones, including all internal and client-facing meetings, and key deliverable dates.
  • Establishes and upholds trustworthy working relationships with internal PE teams, clients, vendors, and fabricators, and acts as a daily point of contact, with oversight from the Creative Director.
  • Works with the Creative Director to determine weekly team utilization.
  • Ensures all internal and client-facing meetings are set up for success (preparing and sending meeting agendas, prepping documents, and materials on the server
  • for easy access, setting up calls, ensuring meetings run on time, etc.)
  • Leads the team through the development of design documents (all project deliverables and presentations), with oversight from the Creative Director.
  • Conducts research of pertinent zoning and building code requirements for projects.
  • Leads teleconference meetings, in-person reviews, and presentations with clients, fabricators, and other team members, with oversight from the Creative Director.
  • Leads other team members by example by being punctual to work and meetings, meeting project deadlines withing given timeframes, and displaying a positive and encouraging attitude/outlook in the studio.

Professional Development

  • Seeks to expand personal and team knowledge and expertise of branded environments, interpretive programs, wayfinding systems, information design, identity, and multimedia installations through self-discovery (blogs, books, journals, lectures, events, etc.).
  • Attends local design events and/or lectures and shares takeaways with the team.
  • Encourages team members to attend local events and lectures.
  • Pro-actively seeks to expand design and management skill set (3d modeling, typography, PE Vision training, presentation, UX/UI, etc.), and encourages other team members to do the same.
  • Presents/shares ongoing EGD projects during monthly studio meetings.
  • Actively participates in and utilizes professional networking resources.
  • of at least one local graphic design or EGD focused organization (i.e., SEGD, AIGA).
  • PE reimburses membership fees for one organization.
  • Mentors and develops team members.
  • Looks for opportunities to bring new business opportunities to Perkins Eastman through personal and professional networking.
