The Opportunity:
Perkins Eastman Costa Mesa is searching for a talented project designer who is ready to engage, learn, and contribute to a vibrant and active studio culture. We are seeking a dedicated, passionate team member with strong individual design sensibility, technologic skill set, and problem-solving skills a Project Designer III.
This position requires the candidates to support project team leaders, to pursue a leadership career, and to produce documentation and presentations suitable for the Perkins Eastman team and client. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager responsible for each individual project, the Architectural Designer III will be responsible for assisting in leading the team in Master Planning, Site Planning, and Building Design and Construction Administration support services, utilizing 3D Modeling with expertise in a variety of software programs. Relationships and culture are significant priorities for this Southern California studio.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the envelope as well as coordinating all interior engineered building systems.
- Draw and coordinate all building sections, walls, plan details and sections, wall sections and slab edge, openings and penetration drawings, egress stairs and elevations with team members. Know how to put a building together. Mentor others
- Coordination with MEP, structural, civil and landscape consultants
- Prepare visionary, programming and schematic proposals, project layouts and develop designs in 3D using Revit with other 3D modeling software for client review/approval. This includes marketing opportunities in pursuit of new work, as well as current projects.
- Perform design computations and calculations, technical specifications, and compile data.
- Prepare design and construction drawings/detailing for incremental design deliverables, construction documentation, plan review and approval, bid, construction, and close out.
- Review building codes to assure that design complies with the minimum legal standards in California, including Title 24 accessibility and energy codes, and Cal Green sustainability requirements.
- Assist in the construction administration phase as boots on the ground by attending meetings, preparing correspondence, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFI’s, creating master project logs, and keeping good records.
- Supervise the preparation of finish material sample boards, physical and/or digital models as required, and graphic presentations for client and community review and approval.
- Know how to balance project requirements with performance, purpose, beauty, and construction costs.
- Focus upon sustainability requirements in pursuit of Net Zero. LEED Gold or better, and Well criteria to support PE as a member of the AIA 2030 Commitment
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of full-time experience required K-12, Higher Education, and public experience a plus.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use MS Office Suite: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Proficient with software such as Revit, Adobe Suite software, Illustrator; Sketchup, 3D software such as Rhino and Grasshopper, InDesign, PowerPoint, Excel, and other data management software
- Perform and record meetings and site observation activities during design and construction.
- Use computer-assisted design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint and 3d Viz and other data management software such as Word and Excel. Record/archive all drawings, data, and project information.
- Revit and detailing experience required.
- Strong graphic, organization and communication skills with other staff, owners, community members, and engineering and design consultants. Firm culture is important to us, and we are looking for the right fit.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and experience leading teams and managing projects are a plus.
