Organization Description

Since its founding in 1865, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers has actively fought to improve our members’ quality of life – on and off the job – through access to fair wages, good benefits, safe working conditions, and solidarity among members.

Today, we represent the most highly skilled trowel trades craftworkers across the United States and Canada including bricklayers, stone and marble masons, cement masons, plasterers, tilesetters, terrazzo and mosaic workers, and pointers/ cleaners/ caulkers. With over a century of protecting the rights of our workers, BAC is the oldest continuous union in North America.

Peggy Browning Fellowship Description

Peggy Browning Fellows with BAC will engage in legal research and writing, with a mix of short-term and long-term projects.  The work will focus on legal aspects of internal union administration, numerous federal labor, civil rights and related statutes, and assistance with developing and implementing union policy initiatives.  This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with OPEIU, Local 2.

Excellent analytical and writing skills and commitment to the labor movement are required.  Must be enrolled in an accredited law school.  Second- and third-year students preferred, but first year students with a strong background will be considered. 

In addition to the basic application requirements (cover letter, application form, essays, resume), applicants for this fellowship must also include a writing sample and a transcript.

Once an offer is extended, applicant will have to pass a background check before the offer can be made official. The stipend for this fellowship is $26.3593/hour.
