The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, was founded in 1916 and today represents 1.7 million members in more than 3,000 local affiliates nationwide. The AFT represents a diverse membership of educators, healthcare professionals, and other public sector workers. The AFT has a longstanding history of fighting for justice for our members and the communities in which they live and serve.
The Legal Department of the AFT, located in Washington, DC, is involved in a broad practice of litigation and advising around public and private sector labor law and policy, civil rights and immigrant justice, and education policy, among other areas. Under the direction of the General Counsel and department attorneys, the Peggy Browning Fellow will assist with a wide variety of research, writing and litigation assignments. The Fellow will be given significant responsibility and at the end of the summer should have several legal writing samples. AFT will provide opportunities for the Fellow to develop their skills and build relationships with labor movement colleagues.
Applicants must be second year law students who have taken a course in either labor or employment law. Students applying should possess excellent research and writing skills and demonstrate a strong interest in labor law and the public interest.
This position will pay $25.00/hour.
