Data Engineer 

Charlotte, North Carolina

This Is What You’ll Do:

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing biopharmaceutical company. Reporting to the Business Intelligence Manager of Development, this position is responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting SSIS Scripts, Stored Procedures, and other related ETL structures to meet the company’s needs.

Additional responsibilities of the Data Engineer role include:

  • Consulting with data management teams to get a big-picture idea of the company’s data storage needs.
  • Presenting the company with warehousing options based on their storage needs.
  • Designing and coding the data warehousing system to desired company specifications.
  • Assist in the development and compliance of departmental programming standards.
  • Analyze data model and interface design specifications for completeness and conformity to standards.
  • Write code in compliance with programming standards.
  • Prepare test data and test programs.
  • Conducting preliminary testing of the warehousing environment before data is extracted.
  • Extracting company data and transferring it into the new warehousing environment.
  • Testing the new storage system once all the data has been transferred.
  • Troubleshooting any issues that may arise.
  • Providing maintenance support.
  • Help determine level of effort and time required for solution delivery.
  • Create documents and other artifacts to promote sustainable knowledge management within the organization.

This Is What It Takes:

  • Bachelor degree in computer science or information systems science, or equivalent experience and a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in design, programming, database design, and communication techniques.
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years of experience extracting and transforming data within Business Intelligence environment.
  • Two (2) + years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL Agent jobs, SSIS packages.
  • Two (2) + years of experience with SQL programming objects, including stored procedures, user-defined functions, and common table expressions.
  • Two (2) + years of experience with SharePoint PerformancePoint.
  • Two (2) + years of experience with database tuning and optimization.
  • Three (3) + years of comprehensive data warehouse analysis and design experience, with full knowledge of data warehouse methodologies and data modeling.
  • Must have working knowledge of general business, quality/regulatory requirements, and /or manufacturing systems.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with technical, conceptual, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond to problems creatively.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and assist with after-hours issues, as required.
