This role is an excellent opportunity for pre-rehabilitative professionals to gain hands-on experience with patients and understanding of the day-to-day operations in a subacute rehab department in a skilled nursing facility by providing daily clinic organization, equipment restocking, and hands-on interaction with residents by carrying out prescribed exercise programs determined by treating therapists of the department. Work side by side with the therapy team to enhance mobility and self-care function while learning about practitioner realities in healthcare.
Responsibilities:
- Tidy gym spaces, manage equipment cleaning and storage.
- Carry out specific, prescribed exercise programs to HRC short- and long-term residents.
- Participate in care planning meetings and other treatments as additional assistance when indicated by therapy plans of care.
Qualifications:
- This internship is open to current Undergraduate or Graduate students.
- Studying Physical or Occupational Therapy, or related field preferred.
- Coursework in kinesiology, biomechanics, psychology, and anatomy/physiology beneficial
- Driven, curious, and self-motivated to learn and stretch self in subacute environment.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with ability to adjust approach according to current audience.
Timeline: This internship will last from 8-12 weeks, depending on the availability of intern. There is a possibility that the internship could continue into the fall on a part-time basis, depending on availability of the intern.
