Business Unit Overview

Novanta’s Cambridge Technology business, a part of Novanta’s Precision Medicine and Manufacturing business segment, is a global leader in advanced Laser Beam Steering Solutions. With close to 50 years of expertise, Cambridge Technology designs, develops, and manufactures innovative laser beam steering solutions including galvanometer and polygon-based optical scanning components, 2-axis and 3-axis scan heads, scanning subsystems, high power scanning heads, and controlling hardware and software. Our company excels in collaborating with our OEM partners to engineer products from the largest engineering solution to the smallest component. Key markets include advanced industrial and electronics processes, laser-based medical procedures, and scientific applications.

Job Summary

The role is responsible for providing financial, analytical, and decision support for the Cambridge Technology business unit within Novanta’s Precision Medicine and Manufacturing business segment. This finance role reports directly to the BU General Manager and VP of Finance of the AET business group. This is a “business partner” role, in which the individual is expected to lead the business analysis, forecasting, and planning processes, and also partner with the BU leadership team to make better business decisions through provided insights and information. The candidate must be a “hand’s on” leader who enjoys challenges and thrives in a demanding environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead budgeting and reporting processes including developing financial targets, key metrics, multi-year financial projections and alignment of financial and operational objectives.
  • Facilitate data-driven decision making, across all functions and leaders
  • Develop and lead the monthly & quarterly financial forecasting and planning process to predict operating results, coordinate forecasting processes across the global business, define deliverables, and help drive better business outcomes.
  • Provide analysis of new business opportunities, customer pricing, new product development, acquisitions modeling and due diligence efforts, manufacturing strategy, etc.
  • Coordinate with accounting and operations teams to support internal reporting & management discussion and analysis of the financial and operating performance.
  • Lead the monthly and quarterly financial analysis process which includes detailed analysis of the P&L and Balance Sheet to gain specific insights and make recommendations for business improvements.
  • Proactively identify process improvements, cost efficiency initiatives, while helping to drive stronger ownership over the businesses productivity programs to drive better financial outcomes.
  • Ensuring that the business is run in a cost effective, cash conscience manner, with an emphasis on maximizing economic returns on investments and cash on cash returns.
  • Support and manage the strategic development planning processes.
  • Assist in special projects as needed.

Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies

  • BS degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 8-15 years progressive experience in financial planning and analysis; industrial manufacturing experience required
  • Exceptional financial, analytical, and modeling skills
  • Proven management abilities in the areas of performance management, leadership influence and executive engagement
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, hand’s on individual contributor
  • Advanced MS Excel required; Hyperion/HFM, and Oracle/SAP preferred
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives, including problem identification & mitigation
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced unstructured atmosphere with minimal supervision

Travel Requirements           

  • Occasional travel is required to Novanta global locations.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.

  • Ability to read computer screen and read printed materials.
