Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher required
  • Must be a Dental Assisting National Board-Certified Dental Assistant or dentist licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina.
  • Must have occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a dental assistant or working with a chairside assistant.
  • Be a graduate of a CODA accredited program
  • Organization skills, adherence to detail, and follow-up are essential.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in a CODA accredited Dental Assisting program.
  • Current Continuing Dental Education experience in Dental Assisting course content.
  • Educational Methodology coursework experience.
  • Current CPR certification.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and far vision and ability to adjust focus.

Position Description

  • Deliver courses utilizing a variety of teaching methods which may include a combination of traditional, internet, and hybrid. 
  • Assists the Dental Assisting Program Director with the following:
    • Planning curriculum content and sequence to attain the objectives of the program.
    • With the recommendation of needed equipment, supplies and textbooks.
    • Assists with activities of the dental assisting program while keeping current with information and skills in the field.
    • Assists in evaluation of the program and recommend changes in terms of revised needs and objectives.
    • Assists in the inventory of equipment and supplies.
    • Attends periodic conferences with the Dental Assisting Program Director.
  • Observes students’ progress to evaluate effectiveness of teaching.
  • Provides referral for counseling for students regarding problems of a personal or education nature.
  • Serves on college committees as assigned.
  • Participates in continuing education opportunities to enhance own knowledge.
  • Assists in the recruitment, orientation, registration, retention, and placement and follow up of students.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping as required.
  • Responsible for the duties as assigned by the Dental Assisting Program Director, Dean of Health and Human Services and/or Vice President of Instruction and Student Services.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with established policies and guidelines of Montgomery Community College, the North Carolina Community Colleges and pertinent state regulatory agencies. 
  • Maintains designated hours each week for student advising, and curriculum planning.
  • Assist with maintaining program accreditation through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
