Qualifications

Education Minimum:  Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Education, Criminal Justice or related field from a regionally accredited institution or Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice.  Have the ability to communicate with various levels of students through various mediums of instructional delivery; educational philosophy compatible with the role of the community college (a Juris Doctorate degree is not considered a terminal degree for this position).

Experience Minimum:   At least five (5) years of diverse Criminal Justice experience. Experience preferred with the delivery of online instruction and experience with multiple educational technologies.   

Preferred Qualifications

Experience Preferred:  Ten (10) years of diverse Criminal Justice experience with supervisory experience.  Teaching experience with Blackboard LMS, online course development, hybrid courses and educational technology instruction. 

Position Description

Summary
This is a part-time faculty member of the college whose primary assignment involves teaching or the direct support of teaching community college students from various backgrounds, cultures, ages, and experience levels subjects centered on modern Criminal Justice Technology concepts and applications.  This position is a demanding which involves the preparation, delivery of instruction, and evaluation of instruction.  This faculty member is required to have accessibility to students, and have a service to students, community and college mindset in accordance with the educational objectives of the college with understanding of student success strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Instruct, guide, advise and assist students to achieve job skills necessary to transition into employment in the Criminal Justice field using teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
  • Evaluate achievement with timely interim and final performance evaluations.  Assign grades which adhere to college policy and the achievement of Student Learning Objectives as stated in the approved course syllabus. 
  • Maintain instructional quality and effectiveness through constant timely revisions of programs, course syllabi and material within their assigned content area.
  • Maintain and submit accurate administrative reports pertaining to student progress and behaviors including appropriate referrals for students experiencing any academic, personal or other barriers.  All reports or referrals will be submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse learners and to maintain good relationships with students, staff and community partners.
  • Maintain clean and secure class/labs area, tools and equipment.
  • Have the ability to teach CCP students.
  • Dynamic professional who is a forward thinker with the ability to anticipate industry trends with desire for continuous development.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Language Skills

  • Ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as policy manuals, Employee Handbook, SACSCOC Criteria Manual, NC Community College guidelines, program guidelines from JCC, course syllabi and course textbooks.  
  • Has excellent written and verbal skills in multiple formats, including expert level communication through multiple technologies.            

 Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as ability to calculate decimals and percentages.  This position must be able to provide accurate data for program costs projections analysis.
  • Understanding of crime analysis, data analysis, budgeting with ability to develop calculated plans of action to address program needs. 

 Reasoning Ability Functional Reasoning:

  • Ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, teaching andragogy, and leadership. 
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.  Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required.
  • Possess strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, can work independently in a fast-paced demanding environment yet committed to a team concept, a visionary who is well organized.  
  • Have excellent research skills using variety of educational resources to develop and enhance community college student success strategies.

Computer Skills   
A complete knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, email, Blackboard as used in overall management in an educational environment is required, other commonly used educational formats in Criminal Justice education and technology. 
 
Highly skilled with Microsoft Team, Zoom, MS Office 365, and other technologies currently used in online training programs.  
 
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid driver’s license.
 
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:
Requires the ability to safely use, operate, and/or handle a variety of office and Criminal Justice related equipment.  Recognizes potential workplace hazards and reports them efficiently
