Minimum Qualifications

Education:  High school completion or equivalency.

Physical Demands:
The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend over, grasp, clutch, carry and climb ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensing:  Must have a valid driver's license

Knowledge and Skills:
One year of custodial work experience.  Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.   Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment; and follow simple oral and written instructions.  Must be able to complete assigned tasks independently.  Light computer skills required.

Position Description

Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is accepting applications for a full-time Custodian.   This is a benefit eligible position.   Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Under the supervision and direction of the Custodial Manager, performs a wide variety of custodial, moving and set-up duties in order to provide a clean, safe & healthy environment for the campus community.

Duties include:

  • Responsible for overall cleaning of assigned floor/ building; interior and exterior. 
  • Completes Work orders and Work Tasks in a timely manner.
  • Assists in moving furniture, college event set-ups, take-downs and cleanup. 
  • Participates in storm preparedness & clean-up, and snow and ice removal, coordinating with key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Performs general exterminating duties, coordinating with outside professionals as needed.
  • Utilize and maintain powered and general housekeeping equipment to perform assigned duties.
  • Maintains properly stocked first aid kits and custodial closets.
  • Attend monthly departmental and safety meetings.
  • Participates in all operations and facilities functions as directed.
  • Serve on College committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, & employee meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
