Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction High School Curriculum
Must be punctual, professional and conduct oneself in an ethical manner.
Proficiently operate a computer and related software.
Proven ability to concurrently address issues of various levels of complexity.
Proven knowledge and skill in the use of advanced features of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs and Presentation Software.
Skill in organizing, planning, and coordinating meetings and travel arrangements.
Proficient technology skills and ability to teach others.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
 
 Education/Skills 
 
Required: Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education or a related field. Good written, oral communication and time management skills.
   
Preferred: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education, specifically in Special Education.
 
Experience
 
Required: Some teaching experience
     
Preferred: Some experience teaching at a community college

Position Description

Salary is Commensurate on experience and education 

The College and Career Readiness Instructor is responsible for providing instruction to adult learners in the areas of Adult High School, High School Equivalency (GED), English Language Acquisition (ELA), as well as working with students with disabilities. The position is responsible for classroom preparation, accurate record keeping, and working with a diverse group of learners. The position reports directly to the Director of College and Career Readiness. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.  Incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities the ability to perform the essential functions.
 

  • Register students for class and complete the necessary forms.
  • Assess and interpret student’s academic levels and record.
  • Conduct educational conferences with students: Set short and long-term goals, learning contract.
  • Provide individual and group teaching sessions that integrate 21st century teaching strategies while utilizing technology when appropriate.
  • Know College and Career Readiness materials and their levels.
  • Monitor student progress and keep accurate records.
  • Submit reports/forms according to guidelines.
  • Recruit students and publicize program.
  • Provide an informational and helpful classroom setting through differentiating instruction.
  • Assist with ordering materials, curriculum development, training new staff.
  • Actively engage students in learning by teaching mini lessons based on NCDPI core and elective content areas required for graduation.
  • Familiar with accommodations and modifications and how to implement them in classes when appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Maintain and inventory classroom technology and supplies.
  • Attend scheduled workshops and training sessions.
  • Acquire computer/technology competencies as appropriate to position.
  • Maintain security of personal computer access.
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.
  • Serve on college committees as directed by supervisor.
