Minimum Qualifications

Practices, processes, and materials used in building, maintenance, and construction.
Ability and knowledge to operate power and hand tools in a safe manner.
Proper methods for lifting and moving heavy objects.
Safety practices common to building, maintenance, and construction.
Safety requirements for handling toxic or hazardous materials.
Work cooperatively with others.
Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of basic maintenance tools and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and blue prints.
Ability to operate custodial and maintenance equipment.
Must utilize safety equipment at all times.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
 
 Education/Skills 
 
Required:  High school diploma or GED and considerable years directly related work experience with emphasis on electrical equipment and repair; or certificate, diploma, or degree in an electrical field. Forklift operator certification or the ability to obtain a certificate within six months of employment. Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
           
 
Preferred: Bilingual; Career Readiness Certificate (CRC)
 
Experience
 
Required:  Some experience in various aspects of electrical repairs, installations, and other maintenance related fields.
 
 
Preferred:  Extensive experience in electoral installation, repair or other maintenance related fields.

Position Description

HIRING SALARY RANGE

MINIMUM HIRING SALARY: $31,200.00 annually

MAXIMUM HIRING SALARY: Depends on education and experience

Assist the Director of Physical Facilities in the operations and electrical maintenance and repair of institutional facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment; and serve as back up to the Director of Physical Facilities. Position reports to Director of Physical Facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform preventive electrical maintenance and repairs to all institutional facilities, buildings, grounds, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Move, set-up, and install furniture to meet special institutional needs.
  • Perform electrical/plumbing work on campus.
  • Assist in monitoring institutional heating/air conditioning systems and units to insure proper working condition.
  • Perform repairs on door hardware.
  • Familiar with blueprints, schematics, building diagrams, and electrical volt meter.
  • Repairs and replaces electrical fixtures such as light fixtures, ballasts, outlets, switches, etc.
  • Manage college’s electronic, environmental and climate control systems.
  • Perform regular routine inspection, servicing, and maintenance on some institutional equipment.
  • Assist in various campus repair projects.
  • Assist in grounds maintenance, minor painting, and beautification.
  • Assist in providing campus security by ensuring that facilities are properly locked and unlocked.
  • Pick up and deliver campus mail to and from post office.
  •  In consultation with supervisor, identify a set of goals and objectives to be completed annually.
  • Attend required meetings, including participation in graduation.
  • Participate in scheduled staff development activities.
  • Follows proper safety procedures.
  • Monitors, implements and coordinates provisions of the College’s emergency management plans.
  • Acquire computer/technology competencies as appropriate to position.
  • Assist with equipment and software maintenance.
  • Acquire computer/technology competencies as appropriate to position.
  • Maintain security of personal computer access.
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.
  • Serve on college committees as directed by supervisor.
