Minimum Qualifications

Education requirements:
Master's degree from an accredited institution required in Astronomy and/or Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate hours completed in Astronomy.

All coursework must be from a regionally accredited institution.

Must be able to work as part of a team and must value collaboration; possess good teaching and organizational skills; able to communicate effectively both in verbal and written expression; and possess an educational philosophy that is compatible with the mission of the community college.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and procedures of academic and institutional program development in relevant field 
  • Current trends, research, developments, and resources in relevant field 
  • Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations as they relate to students and teaching

Ability to:

  • Create effective instruction for delivery in the classroom and online material as a supplemental instructional method 
  • Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing 
  • Work effectively in diverse teams, both within assigned department and cross-functionally across the college 
  • Interpret and apply college goals, policies, and procedures

Maintain any relevant equipment and supplies related to instruction

Position Description

Description

Adjunct faculty members provide instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, as needed basis. Courses may be seated, online, or hybrid.

Part-time faculty postings are a part of Catawba Valley Community College's efforts to expand our pool of adjunct instructors. Openings for these positions may or may not be available at this time, however, applications from qualified applicants will be kept on file and may be contacted at a later date.

Examples of Duties

Provide effective instruction to students in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to measure student performance.

Ensure teaching and working environment (classroom and lab) by following and enforcing safety and security protocol, ensuring overall cleanliness and  functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards.

Maintain accurate records (such as attendance, grades, documentation for accreditation, etc.) and submit any corresponding reports according to departmental or college guidelines.

All adjunct positions are contingent upon enrollment needs and funding.

All employees paid by direct deposit.

Copies of all unofficial degree transcripts, including coursework completed and degree conferred, must be provided during the on-line application process. Official transcripts are required to be forwarded to the CVCC Personnel Office upon hire.
