Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with one year of experience in grounds maintenance or related work is preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively, follow oral and written instructions, and work independently or in a team environment. Must be knowledgeable of and demonstrate the ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment, and have the ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment. Candidates must have a basic working knowledge of computers and associated software. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is required. 

Preferred Qualifications

Irrigation and/or small engine repair experience is preferred. Bilingual and National Career Readiness Certificate are preferred.

Position Description

The primary responsibility is to maintain the campus grounds. Tasks include lawns, trees and shrubs, parking areas, roads, and athletic facilities. Duties include mowing (riding on power equipment over uneven terrain), trimming grassy areas, pruning trees, raking leaves, and grass clippings, picking up litter, emptying outside trash receptacles, and applying lime, fertilizer, and pesticides. Applicants must be able to walk over extended distances carrying equipment weighing in excess of 20 lbs. (string trimmers, edger, backpack blowers, and sprayers) and be able to safely lift objects weighing up to 100 lbs. (fertilizer bags, debris, etc.). This position will require applicants to work in inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
