Minimum Qualifications

The Dental Hygiene Instructor is required to be a North Carolina registered dental hygienist or a candidate currently seeking a North Carolina license with a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of clinical practice experience. The candidate must be a graduate of a program that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and have a background in educational methodology. Excellent oral and written communication skills, proficiency with commonly used computer software and the ability to supervise, evaluate, and coordinate clinical activities involving at least 30 students are required. A valid North Carolina Driver’s license with a driving record that allows the applicant to be insurable under Wayne Community College’s auto insurance policy is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master’s degree or higher is preferred. Community College or post-secondary teaching experience and knowledge of national accreditation are preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Position Description

The Dental Hygiene Instructor is responsible for teaching an average of 18-22 credit hours per semester including classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction. The instructor will recruit and advise; participate in required special events including college and faculty meetings, orientation, and graduation; participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and planning, accreditation, achievement of learning outcomes, and committee assignments. The Dental Hygiene Instructor will demonstrate a commitment to creating a culture that encourages excellence, professional development, continued competence in the area of responsibility, and an understanding of the diverse backgrounds of students. This position may require you to occasionally work evening, overnight, or weekends. The Instructor will perform all other duties as assigned by the Dental Department Chair and the Dean of Allied Health and Public Services.
