Nikkiso ACD is an engineering and manufacturing company specializing in machinery designed to operate at cryogenic temperatures as low as – 420 degrees Fahrenheit, the boiling point of Liquid hydrogen. For over 50 years, Nikkiso ACD has specialized in centrifugal and reciprocating pumps as well as turbines for air separation. Nikkiso ACD has the most diversified product line in the industry covering nearly every application requiring pumps or turboexpanders.

This position is based at Nikkiso ACD located in Santa Ana, CA.

Position Summary

The Quality Control Inspector ensures that the company provides products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations through the deployment and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS). The inspector will administer various QMS activities to ensure continual compliance to the organization’s procedures and requirements. The inspector will perform a wide variety of product inspections such as dimensional, visual, functional, testing, material, and documentation to ensure these meet production requirements and/or industry standards. The inspector will measure objects or products and compare them to their intended physical specifications, drawings, or requirement in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty well. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical demands required.
  • Maintain inspection tools and working area in a clean safe and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform receiving inspection, in-process inspection (both internal and external parts), and final inspection (assemblies, sub-assemblies, and/or final assemblies).
  • Performs product inspections at different stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain necessary records, move materials as required in the performance of duties or as directed.
  • Assist and facilitate archiving of documentation, including certifications, test, traceability, nonconforming reports, and completion of deliverable manufacturing records.
  • Ability to work overtime. This may include weekdays, weekends, nights and/or holidays.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with all Nikkiso ACD company and EHS policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise

  • The ability to interpret and extract necessary information per production travelers, drawings (blueprints), procedures, specifications, and industrial standards.
  • Familiar with ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance).
  • The ability to set up, maintain, and use varieties of inspection hand tools (caliper, micrometer, bore gages, setting rings, thread gages, profilometer, coating thickness gage, sine bar, etc.).
  • The ability to work in a fast pace, dynamic manufacturing, shop floor environment.
  • The ability to work effectively with other team members is a must.
  • Working experience on several computer programs and databases (MS Office, Outlook, MRP, Engineering drawing database).
  • Good writing and grammar skills.
  • Good verbal communication with internal or external customers.
  • Willing to learn and improve inspection skills to the next level.
  • Working experience in manufacturing, machining, and/or cryogenic industry is desirable but not required.

Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Associate degree or vocational training in mechanical inspection, manufacturing technology or related field desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience whereby requisite knowledge, skills and abilities have been demonstrated.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience inspecting materials and mechanical parts used in the manufacture of cryogenic pumps, rotating machinery, or related machinery is desirable.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience that provides an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job, may be accepted.

In order to perform the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls. Perform other duties as listed below.

  • May be required to lift up to 45 lbs. or team lift.
  • May be required to use a pallet jack, forklift, lift/jib crane and/or any other material handling equipment.
  • Duties will generally be performed indoors and onsite but may require activities to be performed outdoor or offsite.

Environmental Safety Requirements

  • New Employee Safety Training is required by all newly hired employees, including Safety Awareness.
  • All safety-related training is provided and tracked by the EHS Director.
  • Job specific training modules deemed necessary by the employee’s Manager or Director will be required of all employees on an ongoing basis.
  • Understanding and ability to safely work in a potentially explosive environment.

Employees are required to wear Nikkiso provided PPE as/when needed. PPEs include safety shoes, safety glasses, face shields, FR clothing, cryogenic gloves, cryogenic apron, cut resistant gloves, safety gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and dust masks. Failure to comply with Nikkiso safety requirements will result in disciplinary actions, up to and including termination.

Salary Range: $36,000 - $57,000
