The Director of Tax will be primarily responsible for the Company’s tax compliance, tax planning, and accounting for income taxes, specifically in support of Nihon Kohden North America holding company. In addition, the Director of Tax will work with the Company’s North American business units, financial management, and service providers and other tax professionals in carrying out the responsibilities of the role.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provides overall strategic direction, technical guidance, and leadership to the tax function and ensures compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Develops and executes a tax strategy to pursue applicable refunds, credits, and incentives to maximize tax benefits to the company, while minimizing tax obligations.
- Oversees and supports the completion of state, federal, and international tax filings and reporting prepared by third-party partners. Provides all related analysis and support.
- Arranges auditing filing and returns and ensures accuracy of returns and pursues refunds, credits, and incentives to maximize tax benefits to the company.
- Monitors current and new tax regulations, as well as proposed legislation, and advises top management regarding possible impact to the organization.
- Leads sales, use, and property tax functions, as well as accounting for income taxes in the US.
- Drives transfer pricing arrangements between business units to ensure compliance with all laws and any APA agreements and to keep double taxation to a minimum.
- Partners with executive management on tax issues and with accounting staff on tax accounting issues.
- Ensures that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes.
- Serves as liaison with IT function on all technical matters relating to tax applications.
- Assists the senior financial leadership and internal finance teams with estimating and monitoring annual cash taxes and with tax planning issues, as needed.
- Demonstrates the Company’s values on the job and promotes and participates in continuous improvement.
- Actively supports compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including but not limited to FDA, Quality Systems Regulations, safety regulations and applicable statutes).

Qualifications
Education / Certification / Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline
- CPA preferred
- 8 years related experience, with at least 4 years with a public accounting firm
- 6 years of experience working closely with management and/or client executive/client teams
- Level and compensation depends on location, experience, education and skills

Compensation
The anticipated range for this position is $163,000 to $231,000. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, experience and location.

Working Conditions
Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, unless otherwise stated by the department manager. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or department and are subject to change at any time at the Company’s discretion.
Physical: Generally may require some reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying up to 20 pounds, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, standing, walking, sitting, hearing, visual acuity, color vision, and 2-way written/verbal communication in English. More specific details may be provided as needed or requested.
