Part Time 30 hours a week, Three 10 hour shifts

The Position:

The primary responsibility of the surgical oncology assistant is to provide the highest degree of support to the staff surgeons, anesthesia technicians, support staff and patients admitted to the hospital’s oncology service. The surgical oncology assistant must excel in interpersonal communication skills and multi-tasking skills.  They must be reliable, independent, and able to work in a dynamic environment maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude. They should have the ability to recognize the needs of the various patients and staff.  They will be involved in the continuous training of new surgery staff members. Recovering patients is part of their duties.   

Some Duties to include

  • Proficient in all tasks & procedures outlined in the training phases and surgery manual.  
  • Providing outstanding technical support in the operating room and exam room.
  • Providing and ensure quality patient care peri-operatively.
  • Assisting anesthesia technicians and others with inductions and recoveries when directed.
  • Recovering patients with diligence and compassion.

Physical Requirements

  • Mandatory regular attendance and punctual presence.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time, up to 80%-100% of entire shift.
  • Able to move patients weighing to 22 kg repeatedly. Over 22 kg with assistance.
  • Able to perform some repetitive movement of upper/lower body while lifting/restraining/transporting equipment or patients.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for applicants with at least 1 year of veterinary technician/assistant experience in a surgical environment. As this position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, we require applicants to include a cover letter showcasing your writing skills.
