Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Project Manager to support our Power Delivery Substation Department. The Project Manager will report directly to the Manager of our PSO (Project Support Office) and work closely with project teams with the full support of the Mesa PSO group.

The primary functions of the Project Manager are to lead, monitor, and manage power delivery design projects. The objective is to deliver successful projects results by ensuring goals and objectives are achieved while all business processes and applicable procedures are followed.

At this time, Mesa cannot transfer nor sponsor a work visa for this position.  US Citizenship is required (per 10 C.F.R. Part 810).

This position requires a working knowledge of power industry practices, standards, and processes as well as the use of independent judgment, enhanced verbal, and written communication skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision with the support of a remote team. Additionally, this position requires the ability to oversee broad scope projects that have short to long-term focus and the knowledge to resolve complex problems independently under the direction of the program manager or director. The capability to manage projects swiftly and/or a portfolio of projects in a program format is a must.

The successful candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field from an accredited curriculum along with a minimum of 8 years of relevant project experience, with at least 5 years’ experience managing engineering and design projects.

Desired PM Functions:

  • Lead assigned project team, ensuring that project goals/objectives are achieved and that all business processes and applicable procedures are followed.
  • Complete project planning documents, which include project execution plan, project initiation documentation, communication plans, and RFI (request for information) logs, while looking for and finding ways to improve operations and process efficiency.
  • Assist the project team in monitoring and tracking of the project schedule and budget and while satisfying customer expectations and project requirements.
  • Work with the project team to identify, document, and resolve changes that may impact schedule and budget performance.
  • Identify, document, assign, and track project issues through resolution. Accountable for identifying and resolving possible risks and develop/monitor risk plans.
  • Keep the project status reporting system current with the actions and changes that take place on assigned projects.
  • Assist the program manager/director in controlling project expenditures and schedule performance as necessary to fulfill requirements and ensure satisfactory budget performance.
  • Work with project coordinators and project controllers to forecast spending and accruals.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams within multiple programs on project statuses, budgets, and areas for improvement.
  • Assist the design team in resolving technical issues, coordinating design/construction activities and flow of technical information and tracking/resolving action items and information requests.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of power utility substation design and construct projects.
  • Ability to perform a broad range of project responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage a large quantity of projects as a portfolio and provide quick responses when updates are requested.
  • Ability to interpret written/documented scopes of work, scheduling, and related project design/construct criteria as well as guide others in application to engineering design.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Possess solid verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and interface with all stakeholders at a high professional level.
  • Display strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships.
  • Strong capability in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and scheduling software as well as possessing working knowledge of corporate accounting practices and business operations.
  • Willingness to promote and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
  • Willingness to attend meetings at substations while on premises and participate in client engagement meetings while adhering to all safety protocols both issued by Mesa Associates, Inc., and the client’s regulations.
