You are the Director of Development, Fundraising and Events we are looking for. Your expertise and professionalism are needed to lead donor development and fundraising activities for the organization. This position plans, develops, implements and oversees fundraising activities that include event execution, donor development, community awareness, and communications. You will be responsible for a formalized fund development plan and strategy that assures successful donor development growth and funding for programs and special events while connecting people to Meridian’s mission. You will also promote the organization within the community to ensure a broad base of funding resources and engage people with Meridian to become their charity of choice. This full time position works M-F with some travel required.

Director of Development, Fundraising and Events Key Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for leading the growth, development, and successful execution of all donor and fundraising related efforts while focusing strongly on comprehensive fundraising campaigns for the organization that include special events and corporate partnership procurement.
  • Provides effective leadership, accountability, and guidance in all fundraising activities including individual donor gifts, foundation relations, corporate relations, event management and sponsorship expansion. Works diligently to ensure fundraising goals are met.
  • Plans and directs all solicitations and appeals for sponsorships, annual/major giving through a concentrated development plan that expands our presence in targeted areas throughout the state of Indiana.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Marketing & Development, the director is responsible for leading, organizing, fundraising, executing multiple events that inspire and engage community and staff in the organization’s mission. Directly accountable for Meridian’s signature fundraising events in all aspects of planning, managing and coordinating event logistics, production, execution and revenue generation.
  • Participate in the recruitment and solicitation of individuals and businesses for auction items and in-kind contributions for events. Coordinate contracts with event vendors and in-kind donors.
  • Effectively communicate with strong written and verbal skills for building internal and external relationships and promoting Meridian through presentations, print materials, letters, and digital promotions to key stakeholders including individuals, corporations, and foundations to promote Meridian as a charity of choice.
  • Execute “event best practices” protocols to maximize donor development pre and post event. Work with the development and marketing departments to create event-specific direct mail and digital promotions, utilization of email lists generated from the donor database and post event retention of event attendees.
  • Track and report on event fundraising results and participant involvement; Prepare budgets, forecast income and expenses of each event.
  • Maintain relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, vendors and partners associated with the events and campaigns. Create new ways to welcome, engage and reward sponsors and donors for their participation and commitment to Meridian.
  • Create an annual development and fundraising plan, drive implementation and track results in monthly reports. As well as coordinate development and event calendar to support the annual plan.
  • Utilize donor fundraising software to develop metrics, dashboards, goal setting and reporting of monthly activity of the Development Department’s solicitations, donor base, events, community outreach, and promotion efforts.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining corporate alliances and donor relationships, while building a pipeline of corporate sponsorships and individual donors that ultimately cultivates them to major and annual gift giving levels. Identify, cultivate, build and maintain enduring relationships with individuals, local businesses, corporations, charitable foundations and civic organizations.
  • Proposes annual department budget for review and approval by the VP of Mktg/Development. Continually monitors revenue and expenses in relation to the budget. Prepares timely operational reports including monthly and year-end reports.
  • Represents organization at community events. Establishes positive relationships with community leaders and serves on local committees. Seeks advantageous partnerships with community businesses, vendors and individuals. Acts as organization spokesperson.
  • Display good stewardship, which involves managing gifts as donors intended, updating donors on the progress and impact of their gifts, and engaging new donors into the cultivation process by keeping them involved with your organization.

We Value Your Director of Development, Fundraising and Events Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS,) in Marketing, Sales, Philanthropic Studies, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Arts, Social Services, Development or related field of study from an accredited four-year college or university required; Masters preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience required.
  • Proficient in Bloomerang, Etapestry, DonorPerfect or other fundraising software also required.
  • Five or more years’ experience in development, fundraising, event planning/management, donor relations, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Certified as Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), Certified Special Events Planner (CSEP) or Certifications through a School of Philanthropy, or comparable certifications also preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, a driving record meeting Meridian's driving policy, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance required.
