The Director of Finance (Controller) directs the day-to-day functioning of the finance department of the Center. In addition, as the director of the team, the Director of Finance (Controller) is in charge of closely monitoring the Center’s finances and financial practices. The Director of Finance (Controller) is accountable for the accounting operations of the company and provides oversight and supervision of staff within the department. The Director of Finance (Controller) will be a highly skilled individual capable of exhibting strong organizational skills, leadership skills, accounting skills, analytical skills, and knows how to make excel sing and tell stories with numbers. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Hires, trains, and retains skilled accounting and departmental staff.
  • Ensures that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and accounts receivable are collected promptly.
  • Ensures that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
  • Manages the general ledger and ensures systems are in place to account for all transactions.
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Director ensures that payroll is processed accurately, and any errors are identified and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Manages the 403(b) plan calculations to ensure correct and timely payments occur for staff.
  • Directs the production of the annual budget and consults with Center Directors to engage in budget planning activities each year.
  • Reviews all financial plans and compare with financial reports in order to identify, explain, and correct variances as needed.
  • Coordinates and prepares internal financial statements monthly and external financial statements as needed.
  • Evaluates accounting and internal control systems.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates all accounting functions.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for fiscal audits and coordinates providing required documentation to satisfy audit requirements.
  • Directs processing check requests as needed.
  • Acts as a staff liaison with the Center’s Board of Directors Finance committee by engaging in scheduled meetings and providing written and verbal reports as requested.  
  • Comply with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience in accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of sound ethical practice and principles related to the management of accounts and finances.
  • A superior communicator, who shares information readily and concisely, listens as well as gives advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, to include operating Microsoft Office Suite programs including Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills to monitor financial performance.
  • Knowledge and ability to navigate an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), including data reporting.
  • Ability to perform amicably in an environment serving the seriously and persistently mentally ill adult population.
  • Ability to respect and uphold confidentiality.
  • Ability to exhibit a high level of organizational skills and able to prioritize and multi-task without direct supervision.

Additional Information

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or business, Masters in related field is preferred.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • At least ten (10) years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with Quickbooks Online.
  • Proficient with the use of Excel.
  • Able to coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team.

Pay: Commensurate with experience

Physical Demands: The position requires moderate physical effort on a daily basis such as walking, bending, stooping and standing for periods of time.
