Position: Full-time CTE Trades and Manufacturing Teacher

Reports to: Director of Educational Services/Principal

Summary:
Walsh Academy is seeking a passionate and skilled CTE Teacher to lead hands-on instruction in a designated skilled trade, such as Carpentry & Woodworking, Silkscreen, Culinary Arts, or Electrical/HVAC/Welding. The ideal candidate will combine their industry expertise with a trauma-informed teaching approach to support diverse learners with special educational and emotional needs. This position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver a curriculum that integrates academic, social-emotional, and career-technical learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement hands-on curriculum that aligns with Illinois CTE Model Curriculum Standards and industry-recognized certifications.
  • Provide differentiated instruction and support for students with specific learning disabilities, emotional challenges, and other health impairments.
  • Supervise students in a classroom and lab setting, enforcing safety procedures and a positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the classroom's social worker and paraprofessional to address students' social-emotional needs and ensure a cohesive learning approach.
  • Integrate academic concepts and essential workplace soft skills into technical instruction.
  • Support students' participation in industry-relevant activities, competitions, and postsecondary initiatives.
  • Collaborate with administration to organize and supervise work-based learning, apprenticeships, and internship opportunities for students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and performance.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and team members regarding student development.
  • Participate in school-wide meetings, professional development, and community relations efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain an ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL) with a CTE endorsement, or an Educator License with Stipulations (ELS-CTE) in the relevant program area.
  • Documented minimum of 2,000 hours of experience in the specific CTE field.
  • Prior experience working with special education or diverse student populations is preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and a commitment to positive relationship building.
