About the Role

Under general supervision, the Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in providing high-quality developmental care and education for children enrolled in our childcare center. The position helps foster intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth in a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum and activities that promote development in all learning domains.

  • Supervise and engage with children throughout the day to ensure safety and well-being.

  • Act as the classroom lead in the absence of the teacher, maintaining consistency and structure.

  • Support the creation of a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom and outdoor play area.

  • Model positive interactions and use appropriate, encouraging language and discipline strategies.

  • Observe, document, and communicate children’s developmental progress and behavioral patterns.

  • Maintain accurate daily attendance, reports, and other required records.

  • Communicate effectively with families about their child’s activities and any incidents that occur.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities (trainings, workshops, classes) to meet annual state requirements.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Prefer: Child Development Associate (CDA), Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, or at least 30 semester hours with six credits in Early Childhood Education.

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent will be accepted.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to provide compassionate, patient, and engaging support to young children.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 35–50 lbs as needed (with assistive devices for heavier loads).

  • Ability to stand, bend, and engage in active play for extended periods.

  • Must complete TB screening and required health clearances per childcare licensing standards.
