As the Director of Operations, you will lead the start-up and ongoing operations of the new Marvin facility in Kansas City, KS. This position will guide the collective organization in crafting a team who puts safety first and continually improves competitive position, operational excellence, and profitability. This role is responsible to lead cultural change and growth initiatives targeting enhanced organizational strength to support an environment of continual improvement through people. This individual will also champion the maximization of business unit responsiveness to service customer’s requirements for products, services, and support.

DECISIVE AND DATA DRIVEN. You assist in making strategic business decisions based on data analysis and interpretation of a majority of tracked metrics, data, etc. You know when to make and act on a decision that will benefit the company, employees, and customers all around.

A SERVANT LEADER WITH EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. You are completely focused on not only the growth of Marvin as a business but also the growth of the people and communities to which one belongs to ensure that all direct reports have what they need to continue expanding knowledge and skill set.

A COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVER. You enjoy solving problems and approach any roadblock or challenge with an open mindset, and partner with team members day in and day out to assist in the team’s overall growth in skills and knowledge of the position and manufacturing industry.


Essential duties may include:

Within the first 30-60 days and ongoing:

  • Learns Marvin’s mission, core values, services, and operational procedures.
  • Becomes familiar with Marvin’s products, tools, machinery, production, and manufacturing processes specific to the plant.
  • Completes all assigned internal training required. For the first 6-9 months, you can expect at least 50% travel for training.
  • Starts to build the team with the support of the Sr. Director of Operations
  • Meets and begins developing rapport with the Fargo teams who will support Kansas City; Director of Engineering, Director of Operations, Sr HR Manager, Plant Managers, Safety Manager, Sr. Materials Manager, R&D Manager, etc.
  • Learns production processes and how each group works cross-functionally with one another
  • Learn the day-to-day expectations and how to be successful
  • Understand where we’re at with Lean manufacturing and assumes the lead on implementation in KC.
  • Meet regularly with your team to build relationships and begin to understand current skills, potential, and development for each person to best mentor and manage.

By the 6th-month mark:

  • Is fully ready to lead all aspects of the new facility in KC.
  • Independently leads all plant meetings. Bringing questions and ideas on how to overcome issues/challenges that arise.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director on how to reach a resolution.
  • Displays an open-door communication policy where all employees can get in contact with you for questions, comments, concerns, and escalation of issues, etc.
  • Begins to focus more on visionary aspects of the role by leading strategic planning processes consistently driving CI and product redesign.
  • Partners with Human Resources Sr. Manager on workforce planning to align with business needs as well as on Marvin Enterprise Human Resources initiatives, communications, and rollouts to support compliance and our Marvin Better Living Framework.

12+ months and ongoing:

  • Starts developing annual SWOT analysis and strategic planning through partnership with the Senior Director of Operations (depending on when Director of Operations starts).
  • Attends an annual performance review with the Senior Director of Operations to discuss areas excelled in, gaps in performance, and develop a plan for growth in the upcoming months.
  • Continues to hit personal and professional goals, delivers reports to the leadership and executive teams without missing deadlines, has great cross-functional communications, and can stay on top of day-to-day responsibilities with little to no intervention from the Senior Director of Operations.
  • Visits select customers, with Sales, as needed to represent Operations. Lead customer factory tours of the manufacturing facility.

You’re a good fit if you have (or if you can)

  • Demonstrated abilities in building and developing strong and successful teams
  • Validated experience collaborating with senior leadership, understanding long term business strategies, and developing annual operations plans
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) highly preferred
  • Possess strong communication skills by practicing active listening and flexibility across all interactions
  • Experience running a highly configured product in an ETO/MTO environment highly preferred


We also want to make sure you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 10 years+ of experience in a Plant Manager or related role managing a single site and a part of senior level operations leadership; experience within the manufacturing industry required or related industry (i.e., consumer durable goods, etc.)
  • Practitioner of LEAN Six Sigma or Six Sigma
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing projects and timelines
