Position Summary:

The Shift Electrical Technician will be responsible for:

  • Supporting Production Operations.
  • Quickly troubleshooting and repairing controls and electrical failures.
  • Gathering information (Part No’s for ordering, Motor Nameplate FLA, etc.) and properly communicating this information to the Maintenance Scheduler or Managers as well as properly documenting the event in a daily electronic shift report.
  • Completing scheduled and unscheduled Preventative Maintenance or WO assignments and properly managing the associated paperwork.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM) - Repair, Replace, Verify, or Inspect equipment.
  • Assigned Work Orders (WO) - Investigate, Tune, Calibrate, or Follow-up with troublesome equipment or shift report events.
  • Managing and completing assigned project work, both collaboratively and independently
  • Small system Upgrades, Additions, or Modifications.

This position is for a rotating shift schedule that is dictated depending on business needs, this schedule could possibly be adjusted between 2–8-hour shifts (5+ days per week) or temporary day work assignments. The Technician must communicate professionally with managers, co-workers, and operators. The Technician must perform his/her work in a safe manner based on company safety requirements and OSHA Law.

Job Requirements:

  • 3 Years of experience working as an Industrial Electrician or Electronics Technician in an industrial environment is required.
    • Experience in Relevant Industries (Web Handling, Tension Control, Mixing and Batching) a plus.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and related equipment.
    • Primarily Rockwell/Allen Bradley and older Reliance Electric equipment.
    • Modicon experience a plus.
  • Must have the ability to interpret and understand ladder logic.
    • Function block program experience a plus.
  • Experience with HMI’s and related software a plus (Wonderware, PanelView/FactoryTalk ME, Maple Systems).
  • Should have experience with sensors and related equipment.
  • Should be familiar with Gas Burner Control Systems - flame safety systems, associated devices and logic, burner modulator controls; must understand and be able to troubleshoot.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics.
    • Mechanical drawing (Pneumatic, Hydraulic, etc.) interpretation a plus.
  • Must be able to work on systems operating at 600 volts AC and 600 volts DC and below.
    • Experience with Medium and High Voltage equipment a plus.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot and repair existing electrical systems and equipment by following electrical drawings and using test instruments such as a voltmeter, ammeter, megger, etc.
    • Oscilloscope experience a plus.
  • Must have experience with AC & DC motors & drives.
  • Should have experience working with computers and familiar with some industrial networks.
  • A strong ability to troubleshoot complex system to discover the root cause of equipment or production failures preferred.
  • Should possess a 1- or 2-year certificate in electrical or electronics training from a technical school, college, or apprenticeship program and 2+ years of related work experience OR 5+ years equivalent work experience being able to demonstrate technical aptitude.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and repairs to ensure reliability, and proper operation of equipment
  • Must have a knowledge of and ability to interpret the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Should be able to size and install electrical circuits including panels, wire size and type, conduit, protective devices, switches, and related equipment needed to comply with the NEC.
  • Should be familiar with NFPA 70E and be able to work safely around electrical equipment.
  • Must be proficient in fundamentals of lockout/tag out OSHA 1910.147 (LOTO).
  • Possess high degree of initiative, creativity, communication skills, self-supervision, and respect for safety requirements.
  • Must be a team player & work closely with maintenance, production, engineering, and outside services.
  • Must have a flexible work schedule - shift work, overtime, weekends, and schedule changes will occur as business needs dictate with a minimum 10 days’ notice.
  • Should be proficient with computers and associated office suite applications (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Must be able to climb ladders and flights of steps and lift 50 lbs.
