Description of Responsibilities:
The Perioperative Assistant will perform a variety of tasks to assist with patient care in the ASC. This position will have a general understanding of ophthalmic surgery, knowledge of medical/ophthalmic surgery terminology, and have experience in the healthcare field.
This position generally works four days per week Monday - Thursday 6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Flexibility in schedule is needed from time to time in order to meet business goals and provide exceptional patient service.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Maintaining Sterile field awareness
- Gather necessary supplies / equipment for procedures according to surgical schedule
- Prepare Operating Room for planned procedures according to surgical schedule
- Open supplies following sterile technique
- Maintain documentation as required for instrument tracking and Quality Assurance
- Move equipment as necessary during surgical schedule
- Assist staff with preparing opening and closing Operating room per protocol
- Assist with positioning patients as needed
- Work in conjunction with Instrument processing to obtain sterile items as needed
- Return used instrumentation to decontamination area following proper protocol
- Assist with inventory process both ordering and stocking supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Experience Requirements:
Sterile field awareness, experience in the healthcare field, intermediate level computer skills.
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Licenses / Certifications:
BLS certification is required.
Typical Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a fast-paced perioperative environment. Involves contact with patients, physicians, and staff with a variety of personalities. Requires ability to work in a team environment as well as multitasking. Occasional overtime or evening work may be requested.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires normal range of vision and hearing for patient contact. Work may require standing for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, reaching and lifting. The ability to move patients on stretchers and wheelchairs who may weigh 300+ pounds. Requires manual dexterity to operate variety of medical equipment. Must be able to move physically from floor to floor. Occasionally lifting over 20 pounds

Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills in order to handle multiple and sometimes conflicting tasks. Must be able to work with minimal supervision regarding time management and have the ability to consistently make sound, ethical decisions in emergency situations. Demonstrated ability to make accurate assessments while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the organization.
