SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the management of complex structural steel projects ensuring the safety and strength of the structures we build out of our Metro Kansas City office. This position will work closely with the Vice President and has the opportunity for progression into senior management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage large-scale commercial and industrial and some residential structural steel projects from conception through completion, ensuring all engineering standards are met.
  • Collaborate with clients, partners, internal teams and subcontractors to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Utilize project management skills to coordinate resources, timelines, and budgets effectively.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer-facing skills to engage with clients, understand their needs, and deliver solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Play a pivotal role in business development activities, leveraging technical expertise to support sales efforts and forge strong client relationships.
  • Assist in the development/guidance/coaching of staff team members.

YOU WILL NEED

  • Strong technical proficiency, experience and capabilities in engineering principles and design software, with a focus on structural steel.
  • Strong proficiency in computer-assisted engineering and office software and equipment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in the English language, with an ability to work effectively in a customer-facing role.
  • High-level ability to define problems, collect/interpret data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • High-level leadership and organizational skills.
  • Robust background in project management, ideally in the area of structural steel.
  • Be a driven individual with a strong customer-facing and sales engineering background.
  • Skilled at juggling multiple priorities at one time and keeping track of deadlines.
  • Experience managing and collaborating with high-performance teams of engineers.
  • Comfortability in dealing with highly uncertain, ambiguous, and fast-moving environments.
  • Drive to stay up-to-date and informed by taking an active interest in emerging research and industry trends.
  • Knowledge and experience in overview and reviewing calculations.
  • Creative thinking skills when weighing risks and benefits.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering from an accredited four-year university; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in structural engineering and project management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & SAFETY

The duties of this position require the employee to regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. This position may require the employee to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While in the field, the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to eight hours or more at a time. This position requires maintaining current industry knowledge and expertise through active involvement in professional organizations and/or other activities that may require additional and/or flexible working hours. The ability and availability to readily work overtime and perform duties outside of normal working hours may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Travel inside and outside of the continental U.S. may be required.
