Job description

The Deputy Project Manager (Civil Construction Expert) will provide the overall direction, completion and financial outcome of construction projects as directed. This role will encompass the planning, execution and closeout of the project’s strict deadlines and budget, including acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and to deliver the specific project according to the specifications, drawings and executed design-build contract.

Responsibilities include providing PM subject matter expertise to support and successfully deliver a heavy civil/ earthwork transit project, chair progress meetings, coordinate resolution of technical matters, ensure contractor means and methods are technically sound and safe, management of project engineers, inspection staff and project scheduling.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a strong Civil Construction Expert with experience in earthwork/mining and deep excavation, including support of excavation experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geo-technical Engineering or similar field
  • Proven work experience as a Tunnel Engineer
  • Solid background in heavy earth and underground work
  • Experienced in open cut and deep excavations, sequential excavation methods and installation (SEM)
  • In-depth knowledge of excavation techniques
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Understanding of instrumentation and monitoring methods (displacement and vibration)
  • Understanding of excavation surface protection and tunnel lining, cast in place concrete and shotcrete

Responsibilities

  • Planning, designing, and managing all aspects of a heavy civil construction project with underpass and tunnel building aspects
  • Monitor on-site progress
  • Meeting with engineering team to discuss scope and scale of project
  • Conducting on-site safety and progress inspections
  • Communicate and meet as needed with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis
  • Reporting to Program Manager as responsible for the overall management of the project (e.g., resources, schedule, cost tracking) to ensure complete solutions are delivered on time and within budget
  • Provide overall communication of project expectations and objectives
  • Communicate and meet as needed with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis

Lead community outreach efforts

  • Provide the necessary planning for the program/construction management resources needed to achieve project goals
  • Prepare and manage project cost reporting
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises and devise contingency plans
  • Overall responsibility for safety, quality and budget for project and ensuring work adheres to contract specifications
  • Manage direct reports to include Resident Engineer, Inspectors, Schedulers, Estimators, Safety Engineer, Quality Engineer
  • Prepare project status reports.
  • Manage cost and project documentation
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members
  • Monitor project safety and quality control
  • Assure that submittals are received, submitted, corrected, approved and returned to general contractor.
  • Manage RFI process
  • Prepare and transmit appropriate project correspondence.
  • And other duties assigned

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Knowledge of Civil Construction, Earthwork, and Tunneling construction. Ability to apply efficient, innovative, and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance and project success. Thorough understanding of industry practices and standards, processes, and activities.

  • Prior experience with earthwork/mining and deep excavation experience a must
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geo-technical Engineering or similar field
  • Minimum of 10 years of project experience in earthwork/mining and deep excavation experience.
  • Ability to read and evaluate drawings and relevant contract documents
  • Familiar with design-build and other civil construction scopes
  • Thorough understanding of construction codes and working knowledge of all trades and OSHA safety requirements
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interact and collaborate at all levels
  • Flexibility to work after hours, and on nights/weekends
  • Must be highly organized and efficient, and able to handle a wide variety of obligations
  • Strong attention to detail and a self-starter
  • Creativity and innovation a must with strong analytical skills
  • Must have excellent team building skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail oriented a must
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Passion for the work and industry
  • This position requires an individual that is enthusiastic, confident, and independent, with strong leadership skills. Must be able to follow the direction of the senior project manager

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
