Position Overview
As a Mechanical Designer, you’ll work under the direction of a Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager to design HVAC and mechanical systems that meet high standards of performance, efficiency, and constructability.
This role blends technical design, fieldwork, and cross-discipline collaboration. As you grow, you’ll assume greater independence, lead coordination efforts, mentor junior staff, and handle larger project scopes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Apply mechanical and thermodynamic principles to design and specify HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Perform HVAC load estimation, energy usage calculations, and energy code compliance documentation.
Coordinate with architects, structural, electrical, and client teams to integrate all MEPT elements.
Design systems including:
Ductwork layout, sizing, routing
Air distribution devices (grilles, diffusers, registers)
Central & terminal HVAC units (AHUs, FCUs, VAV boxes, etc.)
Hydronic piping (sizing, routing, pumps)
Central plant equipment (boilers, chillers, pumps, heat exchangers)
Control/automation systems (sequences, control strategies, integration)
