Civil Project Engineer – Land Development | Chicago, IL | Mid-to-Senior Level (5+ Years)

About the Role

We are hiring a Civil Project Engineer with 5+ years of experience in site/civil design and land development. This is a full-time, in-office role based in Chicago, IL, supporting diverse projects in K-12 and higher education, commercial, office, restaurant, park district, municipal, and infrastructure sectors. This role involves full project lifecycle contributions, from concept through construction, with a focus on design quality, client coordination, and technical leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support the design of land development projects including grading, drainage, stormwater systems, utilities, parking, and roadways.

  • Produce detailed site plans and construction documents using Civil 3D.

  • Use hydrologic/hydraulic software to design and permit stormwater and storm sewer systems.

  • Interpret and apply regulatory standards for site permitting and code compliance.

  • Analyze maps, surveys, geotechnical reports, and site data for planning and design purposes.

  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and internal teams to deliver integrated project solutions.

  • Mentor junior engineers and oversee production and quality of technical documentation.

  • Participate in site visits and construction-phase support as needed.

  • Maintain schedule and budget compliance across assigned projects.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of civil/site design experience with a strong focus on land development.

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.

  • Strong understanding of site permitting processes and relevant municipal, state, and federal regulations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage small project scopes and delegate tasks as needed.

  • Collaborative mindset and experience working within cross-functional teams.

  • EIT certification required; PE licensure preferred.

  • Experience with stormwater modeling software and familiarity with construction site practices.
