Principal – Managing Director
Location: Austin, TX

An established multidisciplinary MEP consulting firm is seeking a dynamic Principal – Managing Director to lead its Austin office. This role is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to combine business development, technical expertise, and leadership to grow a local practice while supporting additional offices across Texas.

About the Role

Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Principal – Managing Director will play a key role in:

  • Business development and client relationship management

  • Mentoring and developing engineering staff

  • Leading high-profile projects as Principal and Senior Project Manager

  • Ensuring quality design and project delivery across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines

  • Overseeing office financial performance and profitability

Responsibilities

  • Lead business development efforts to grow the firm’s Austin portfolio; identify new clients and opportunities.

  • Manage proposals, contracts, negotiations, and client billing.

  • Serve as Principal and Senior Project Manager on key projects, ensuring successful delivery.

  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgets, and staffing assignments.

  • Supervise and mentor a team of 5+ engineers and technical staff.

  • Ensure quality control measures are implemented and adhered to across all projects.

  • Participate in leadership team discussions and help shape company policies and culture.

  • Collaborate with other office directors to pursue regional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of related mechanical engineering/architectural engineering experience.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas required.

  • LEED AP preferred.

  • Proven track record in business development and client relationship management.

  • Strong technical background in design and project management of mechanical and plumbing systems, with ability to coordinate with electrical, architectural, and structural teams.

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
