LinQuest is actively seeking a highly skilled Model-Based System Engineer (MBSE) to join our innovative team at Edwards AFB, CA.
As a critical member of a team delivering transformation capabilities to the Air Force, you will be at the forefront of applying MBSE methodologies to the research, development, and maturation of liquid rocket engine, solid rocket motor, and spacecraft propulsion technologies. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and a forward-thinking approach to support the digital transformation activities aimed at creating a rocket motor test infrastructure government reference architecture and enhancing the efficiency, innovation, and capabilities of the Rocket Test Facility.
In this position, you will be instrumental in the strategic development and hands-on application of model-based systems engineering techniques, facilitating the digital engineering and transformation capabilities necessary for achieving AFRL/RQRO's mission objectives. The Model-Based System Engineer will play a key role in providing recommendations that leverage MBSE techniques and products to support mission objectives, as well as developing standards, processes, and products that are integrated and aligned with the overarching goals of our client.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and refine MBSE methodologies and practices to develop comprehensive models of test infrastructure, processes, and systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate representation and integration of engineering requirements into system models.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of the Test Infrastructure Government Reference Architecture (GRA), facilitating a unified approach to MBSE modeling across the project.
- Utilize appropriate MBSE tools and software to depict detailed information flows and functional relationships within and across system components.
- Contribute to the development and analysis of digital twins, enhancing predictive maintenance, system optimization, and R&D capabilities.
- Engage in detailed analyses to assess the impact of engineering decisions, identify improvement areas, and support the transition towards advanced digital engineering solutions.
- Communicate complex modeling concepts and project progress to technical teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership, ensuring clarity and alignment on project objectives.
- Coordinate and collaborate with data professionals to ensure key information from MBSE models can be pulled into reporting frameworks where applicable.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, or a closely related technical field.
- Model-Based Systems Engineering: Demonstrated strong proficiency in MBSE methodologies and tools, with extensive experience applying SysML in complex engineering projects.
- Technical Expertise: Experience in aerospace, defense, or related sectors, with the desire and capability to rapidly digest and understand the technical characteristics of rocket propulsion systems and rocket test stand operations.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of conducting comprehensive system analyses and contributing to the development of digital twins.
- Collaboration and Communication: Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Must have an active Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience working with the Department of Defense or within the aerospace sector on propulsion technology projects.
- Familiarity with digital engineering practices beyond MBSE, such as 3-D visualization and CAD modeling, enterprise analysis modeling, and IoT/digital twin frameworks
- Understanding of data management concepts
- Leadership qualities with the ability to guide teams through complex systems engineering challenges.
Compensation: The salary for this position ranges from approximately $125,000 to $175,000, depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
