Job Summary:
Safely and efficiently operates powerhouse equipment to ensure reliable utility supplies to campus buildings. Acts as the leader for shift operations and demonstrates ownership for safety of shift Stationary Engineers, contractors, and maintenance staff working in powerhouse. Performs and helps facilitate completion of preventative/corrective maintenance for all plant equipment. Works scheduled hours as necessary to support coverage of a 24/7 operation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee/coordinate all utility operations while on shift and train less experienced staff
¨Operate, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain all systems related equipment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, pumps, and deionized water production trains
¨Utilize the Utility Monitoring System to monitor, control, and trend performance of plant equipment
¨Complete preventive and corrective maintenance work orders.
¨Provide back-up assistance for Waste Water Treatment Plant operations.
¨Perform water chemistry laboratory analysis on plant systems and maintain chemical parameters
¨Investigate and assist with abnormal facility conditions as needed after-hours.
¨Follows all SOPs and maintains a safe working environment
¨Interact professionally with facility staff as well as customers.
¨Assist Utilities Supervisor.
¨Other related duties as assigned.
Education/Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Boiler Operator certification
Ability to obtain “Universal” refrigerant usage certification per EPA Section 608
Experience:
Required:
- 5 years of experience in power plant, chilled water plant, or utility operations experience
- Experience in a GxP environment is preferred.
- Ability to use MS Office at an intermediate level
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in animal room environments.
- Exposure to external temperature and weather extremes on occasion.
- 24/7 shift work
Special Factors:
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Overtime and weekend work as required.
- Mandatory immunizations and screening as required.
- May work with potentially hazardous substances.
- Climbing ladders and working in confined spaces may be necessary.
- Exposure to greases, oil, solvents, additives, and live steam may be expected.
