Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision and control of the registered pharmacist the pharmacy technician will assist pharmacist and perform packaging, manipulative, repetitive and other nondiscretionary tasks. Additionally, the individual in this position will float between the Transit Village and San Antonio Heath Center
Major Areas of Responsibility, include but are not limited to:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Fills orders and dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist (pulls prepackaged medication or obtains stock containers); prepares oral, and external medications using various packaging and labeling equipment.
- Receives physician orders and reviews for completeness; determines availability of drugs (ordered by generic or trade names) on clinic and/or Medi-Cal formularies; obtains patient information on prescriptions; interprets physician's directions and types prescription labels.
- Collects payments for services rendered, operates cash registers, and maintain an accurate till.
- Orders medication and pharmaceutical supplies under the supervision of the pharmacist; receives and verifies delivered orders; restocks medication shelves and supply bins; rotates and removes outdated drugs; maintains a clean working environment including Pharmacy equipment and work counters; maintains stock records.
- Inputs into computer terminal dispensing and billing information; updates files on new drugs, changing drug costs, new physicians, etc; maintains other appropriate records.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical/medical terminology and abbreviations including generic and trade names of drugs; pharmacy laws pertaining to the dispensing of all types of drugs (Federal, State regulations on filling prescriptions); methods and procedures of handling and storing pharmaceuticals
- Ability to interpret prescriptions and medical orders accurately; perform mathematical calculations including ratios and proportions; set up, operate and maintain a variety of pharmaceutical equipment; perform basic record keeping, filing and moderate typing; accept direction and work cooperatively with those contacted during the course of work.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
Education and Experience:
- Requires current registration as Pharmacy Technician in California as issued by the California Board of Pharmacy, Department of Consumer Affairs.
- Must hold a current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate. You will have 30-day grace period to obtain your certificate from the date of hire.
