About KIPP NYC

KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepares students for success in college and life. In 1995, we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in The Bronx. Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college, and beyond- and in so doing, to prove what is possible for all students. Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9,350 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 850. KIPP NYC is continuing to grow and opened two new middle schools and an elementary school August 2021!

Job Description

Position Overview:

The Senior Director, Campaign for Growth will lead the KIPP NYC’s multi-faceted strategic campaign to support KIPP NYC’s ambitious regional core program and growth plans, the Next Generation Campaign for Growth. The Senior Director, Growth Campaign will report to the Managing Director, Development, and work closely with the Director of Foundation and Corporate Giving and the Senior Development Associate. In addition, the Senior Director, will work with the Chief External Affairs Officer, and KIPP NYC’s co-founder to ensure the execution of deliverables and ultimately raise $70M in pledges and cash by August 2026.

This role is based in NYC and may require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. It is important that you notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Build a comprehensive strategy to raise $70M in pledges and gifts for FY 2027 by:
    • Discovery
      • Conduct landscape analysis: benchmarking current and past KIPP NYC donors, including in-depth Interviews with current donors, other CMOs
      • Vet campaign consultants 
      • Oversee prospect research for potential donors, including research from  KIPP Foundation, CMOs, sector leaders
      • host focus groups with long standing donors, new to KIPP donors, junior council, KIPP alumni and community
      • Inform board and leadership about case and strategy
    • Development
      • Manager Development strategy, including silent phase launch
      • Develop monthly timeline and benchmarks for goal for gift acquisition, with regular pyramid analysis, including target list and acquisition of lead gifts
      • Create and refine pitch deck
      • Create Board Fundraising Working Group and launch Campaign chairs
      • In collaboration with the MD, Marketing & Communications, design brand approach and materials
    • Deployment
      • Oversee regular monthly reporting and progress toward  benchmarks for gift acquisition
      • Major donor cultivation and stewardship, new contacts,  follow-up meetings, brand materials,  and engagement strategies for groups of donors during campaign timeline
      • Lead weekly touch base meetings with the MD, Development,  Chief External Affairs Officer, and the Fundraising WG, including supporting materials

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required,  and at least 7 years’ experience in development and advancement positions and management experience. Exposure to high-performing education reform and/or general academic settings a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines 
  • Creative, analytical thinker with an ability to quickly implement thoughtful solutions in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated track record of making decisions based on robust data analysis
  • Exceptional project management skills, especially in managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with CRM databases, Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • A passion for and commitment to being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven organizational culture

Additional Information

Compensation and Benefits:

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $132,000 to $152,000 per year. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band. Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range, however they are ultimately determined by scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
