Job Description

KIPP Nashville Public Schools is committed to providing a college preparatory math education to all students, and operating in line with the national ONE KIPP strategy to drive math achievement. The Director of K-8 Math plays a critical role in realizing this mission by providing schools with high-quality curriculum and assessment materials that are vertically aligned across grade levels and aligned with the national KIPP network best practices, ensuring that every KIPP Nashville student is ready to matriculate into rigorous high school math courses.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Director of K-8 Math include, but are not limited to:

Vision Setting 

  • Invest leaders, teachers, students, and families in KIPP Nashville’s math vision 
  • In collaboration with regional academic leaders and school-based leaders, continually refine KIPP Nashville’s vision for academic excellence

Change Management

  • Internalize the Eureka Math2 curriculum materials and assessments 
  • Build investment from Assistant Principals (APs) and teachers around what excellence looks like in a Eureka math lesson
  • Ensuring alignment to ONE KIPP through implementation of content-specific arcs throughout the school year

Curriculum Frameworks

  • Create and support the rollout plan of regional supports for the Eureka Math2 curriculum
  • Create and manage the K-8 math curricula, including scope and sequences, daily aims, and lesson resources
  • Ensure curriculum alignment to TN state standards 
  • Set the assessment vision for K-8 math, including testing calendar and grading deadlines 
  • Collaborate with the KIPP high school math department chairs to ensure vertical alignment between K-8 and 9-12 curricula and instructional approaches

Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction

  • Write and/or edit assessments for K – 8, including topic assessments, end of modules, and interim assessments 
  • Analyze assessment data and use it to drive action with APs 
  • Prepare data for, and participate in, regional Academic Progress Monitoring meetings
  • Support teachers and leaders in analyzing assessment data.

Professional Development

  • Plan and lead summer PD to launch vision and develop teacher skill set around excellent math instruction 
  • Plan and lead shared PD during the year to support ongoing teacher execution
  • Set the vision for math internalizations, including protocols and schedules 
  • Develop math content leaders by observing internalizations and providing feedback 
  • Co-observe with APs to drive alignment of execution 
  • Observe instructional practices in schools to identify and address curriculum design and professional development gaps

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years exemplary math teaching experience with strong student achievement results
  • Minimum 2 years exemplary, full-time teacher coaching and adult management experience
  • Minimum 2 years curriculum development and management
  • Experience with Eureka Math2 curriculum (preferred) 
  • Model of effective and high-quality math instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to drive student success
  • Experience planning and leading engaging and effective professional development for adults
  • Experience in curriculum support, such as assessment writing and/or scope and sequence management
  • Strong project management skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communicator, who can work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education and/or Math education preferred

Additional Information

Compensation/Benefits

  • Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits. This position will work and be compensated according to a 12 month administrative schedule. 
  • Robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance policy options. Application for these benefits may be made immediately upon employment. The policy is effective upon the first of the month following the first day of work.
  • Certificated staff have access to the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System pension plan(TCRS). Eligible employees contribute 5% and KIPP matches up to 6.81%. Employees may also be eligible for 401k in which KIPP will contribute 5%.
  • Each full time School Support team member is allotted 15 PTO days and all school holidays with the exception of (Fall, Spring, Winter, and Summer breaks which follow an amended schedule for SST staff.)
  • Adoption/Parental Caregiver Leave- up to 10 weeks parental leave for the primary caregiver and 2 weeks parental leave for the secondary caregiver paid at 100%.
  • Leaders are provided with laptop computers with access to the internet and or email to assist them in performing their job responsibilities.
