Job Description
The Assistant Principal of Operations (APO) at KIPP KC is a pivotal leadership role, essential to the operational integrity and educational outcomes of our school. This role is designed to enhance school operations, creating a conducive environment for high-quality teaching and learning by leading all operational aspects including the direct management of the school operations team and oversight of the campus-based operations budget. Working in close collaboration with the regional operations leadership team, the APO implements and maintains operational systems, fosters a data-driven, service-oriented culture, and ensures operational efficiency and excellence. This central role supports the School Leader and educational staff, allowing them to focus almost exclusively on instructional leadership and the school’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
Recruit, train, and lead the school operations team to ensure high performance and retention.
Directly manage the school operations team including Front Office Coordinator, ensuring high performance, professional growth, and alignment with school objectives.
Foster an inclusive and dynamic team culture that promotes professional growth and operational excellence.
Serve as a mentor and coach to develop team members with a focus on long-term career development.
Partner with leadership and staff on rollout, provide training, and assess key routines (collecting data for staff development with the regional operations team).
Participate in meetings and contribute to developing operational procedures aligned with the regional leadership directives.
Attend regular meetings with regional operations leadership to maintain strategic alignment and address operational priorities.
Engage in weekly standing meetings with the school principal to ensure ongoing alignment and that the school's immediate needs are effectively met.
Operational Systems and Strategic Execution:
Develop, implement, and refine comprehensive school operational systems that enhance safety, efficiency, and service quality.
Manage daily school operations such as student transportation, facility maintenance, and technology services, ensuring all systems support the school’s educational objectives.
Lead strategic initiatives to remove obstacles to learning by innovating and improving operational procedures continuously.
Support the academic team by coordinating logistics for major student assessments and managing the distribution of necessary materials.
Oversee student attendance systems, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of daily attendance and implementing strategies to improve attendance rates.
Manage safety protocols, including conducting regular safety drills and ensuring compliance with all safety guidelines and regulations.
Oversee the planning and execution of school events such as field trips, family nights, and staff meetings, ensuring they align with the school’s mission and operational goals.
Manage communications with parents and the school community through various platforms, ensuring alignment with the Regional Ops Lead’s communication strategy.
Financial Management and Compliance:
Oversee and manage the campus-based operations budget in partnership with the regional operations leadership to ensure fiscal prudence and resource optimization.
Ensure all operations are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, maintaining records and conducting audits as necessary.
Provide strategic financial insights to aid in decision-making and budget adjustments.
Stakeholder Engagement and Community Relations:
Strengthen relationships with students, families, staff, and external partners through effective communication and community engagement strategies.
Implement feedback mechanisms to gauge community satisfaction and respond to concerns promptly and effectively.
Performance and Quality Assurance:
Develop and utilize key performance indicators to monitor and report on the effectiveness of operational strategies.
Lead the operations team in achieving and exceeding set performance goals, particularly in areas impacting teaching and learning.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Education Administration, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a school setting, or relevant experience in operations management.
Experience with student information systems and leading a team.
