Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

At KIPP Chicago, primary schools include grades K-4th and middle schools include grades 5th - 8th.  At all campuses, we commit to holding ourselves to high expectations in service of our mission, and aligning on key mindsets and following through on key responsibilities. KIPP Chicago seeks English Learners Teachers (EL) who are Bilingual (Spanish) and licensed to provide English Learners with both direct instruction and additional resources and supports in the general program of instruction.  This teacher will ensure that students keep pace with peers in the core academic content areas as well as develop proficiency in English in accordance with individual ACCESS goals. EL Teachers reports and is coached by the Director of EL Services.

Job Responsibilities for Teachers

  • Teaching & Learning: Thoroughly plan and execute rigorous, high-engagement lessons and use best practice for student investment, assessment, and inclusion of culturally-relevant content

  • Student Feedback: Actively monitor student learning, track mastery data, and provide feedback to students to ensure their mastery of grade-level content and academic growth 

  • Student Culture & Family Engagement: Actively communicate with families and collaborate with peer teachers to facilitate safe, consistent, and joyful school culture where each child belongs 

  • Staff Culture and Professional Development: Follow through on department and grade-level initiatives and actively engage in your professional growth and development

  • Additional expectations for the Bilingual/ESL Teacher include:

    • Design learning plans for students in grades 5 - 8 based on ACCESS language test results

    • Provide pull-out instruction to individual and small groups in Math, Science, Reading, and Writing

    • Prepare students to pass the ACCESS test and exit the transitional program of instruction

    • Administer the ACCESS assessment to students

Qualifications

The requirements for a English Learner (EL), Bilingual (Spanish) Teacher are:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • Illinois PEL with Bilingual or EL endorsement OR Illinois ESL licensure

  • Meet testing requirements of Illinois Charter Law (Test of Academic Proficiency 400 and the appropriate content-area test) (required)

  • At least two years’ prior success teaching in urban communities (strongly preferred)

  • A cleared CPS Background check.
