Job Description
KIPP Texas Regional Directors of Special Populations assume primary responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Special Populations service implementation across their KIPP Texas region. Directors are highly-skilled communicators and problem-solvers who successfully support schools with program implementation, instructional delivery, and addressing challenges that arise within Special Populations.
Regional Directors of Special Populations:
- Apply strong instructional delivery and pedagogical knowledge by regularly observing classrooms, analyzing evidence of student outcomes, and advising regional and school-based leaders on the direction of coaching and development for Special Education practitioners.
- Support the implementation of Special Populations initiatives and priorities by facilitating professional learning with school-based providers.
- Support implementation of 504, MTSS, and Dyslexia services.
- Support schools in developing and implementing solutions to address student-specific challenges, especially related to behavior needs, by conducting student observations, advising on the direction of IEP development, and facilitating strong staffing and ARD meetings as needed.
- Maintain systems and structures that ensure operational excellence and 100% compliance with state and federal laws, procedures, and timelines.
- Manage and coach related service providers (SLPs, LSSPs, OT, etc…)
- Directors of Special Populations possess:
- Knowledge and skill related to Special Education instruction and service delivery across the continuum of services.
- Knowledge and skill related to 504, MTSS, and Dyslexia.
- Experience developing and implementing strong Behavior Intervention Plans for students with behavior needs.
- Experience and skill around facilitation of professional learning with teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Exemplary communication skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders, especially in challenging situations.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal laws and procedures, and a track record of improving and/or maintaining school and organizational compliance with laws and timelines.
- The ability to support KIPP Texas’s mission, vision, and strategic direction through modeling, coaching, and other direct action.
Qualifications
Skills & Qualifications
Education and Knowledge:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in special education, or administration
- 3-5 years in a special education leadership role
- Office experience
- Understanding of specially designed instruction, Universal Design for Learning and Explicit Instruction
- Understanding of eSPED, special education PEIMS, and other compliance systems
- Knowledge of special education state and federal laws and legislations
Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy required
- Strong facilitation of professional development to leaders, teachers, and paraprofessionals
- Strong coaching of leaders, related service providers, teachers, and paraprofessionals
- Excellent organizational skills required
- Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to work
- Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Proven success in working in an environment characterized by changing priorities
- Strong typing skills are required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Proficiency using computers, printers, copy machines, and fax machines
