Job Description
The Opportunity
The cook works as part of the KIPP Texas Austin School Kitchen Team to prepare and serve breakfast, lunch and supper for all students and Teachers on your assigned campus. This position has a firm understanding of nutrition, of nutritious ways to prepare food to maximize its capabilities and to support the district's Wellness Program.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Kitchen supervisor with all kitchen duties
- Carefully prep and prepare products according to the recipe
- Maintain orderly and clean work areas at all times.
- Follow established food safety, maintenance and sanitation practices.
- Ensure the quality, taste and presentation of all prepared items.
- Maintain high productivity levels
- Assist in all areas of the kitchen or cafeteria as needed.
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
- Current Food Handlers card
- Must be self-motivated and able to problem solve effectively.
- Minimum of one year experience in a high volume food service establishment
- Requires moderate physical strength. Standing, carrying, bending, stretching, stooping, pulling, pushing & lifting weights up to 50lbs independently.
- Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful and willing to go above and beyond to feed healthy meals to our students.
- Possess entrepreneurial spirit, is proactive and flexible, and is willing to play different roles in the kitchen and cafeteria in order to meet the varied and constant needs of our students.
- Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being consistent and understanding.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
