Job Description

We are looking for a highly dedicated special education teacher who has a track record of instructional excellence and who is willing to continuously go above and beyond for students. KIPP special education teachers are responsible for ensuring that all special education students receive comprehensive, compassionate, and equitable services in order to achieve breakthrough academic achievement and character development. Teachers will perform additional duties and do whatever it takes for all KIPP students to learn.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage caseload for students with special needs which includes assessment, paperwork, behavior plans, and progress monitoring
  • Provide individual or small group instruction for students who need additional support
  • Provide inclusion push-in support in the regular education classroom
  • Collaborate with regular education teachers on curriculum and accommodations
  • Develop, support implementation, and monitor progress on IEP
  • Utilize IEPs to adapt instruction to reach the needs of students with disabilities
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with classroom teachers, students, and families about IEPs and student progress
  • Believe deeply in the mission and values of KIPP and subscribe to KIPP's Five Pillars
  • Hold high expectations for each student
  • Possess a strong knowledge of all content areas
  • Implement student management policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus
  • Exhibit positive rapport with students
  • Be available for Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and other events involving families
  • Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including summer onboarding
  • Available to students, families, and other staff members after school, as needed
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with all staff
  • Perform all duties related to your classroom, this includes but may not be limited to: regularly tracking student data, attending weekly professional development meetings, meeting weekly with grade level Team Leader and Instructional Coach, completing peer observations, providing targeted math or reading intervention to students
  • Meet all expectations and requirements as stated in the KIPP Employee Handbook
  • Pass a criminal background check, as required by law

Qualifications

  • Valid Indiana teaching license in special education or in the process of applying for reciprocity with a valid out-of-state license
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of two to five teaching years (preferred)
  • Experience teaching in a public middle school setting (preferred)
  • Strong record of helping students from underserved neighborhoods achieve academic success
  • Experience in analyzing student data and using data to inform instruction
  • Willing and able to play different roles at the school, and to go above and beyond to meet the varied and constant needs of the students and staff at KIPP Indianapolis College Preparatory
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the KIPP Indy mission and an unwavering willingness to serve our community

COMPENSATION
Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits. Teachers are also eligible for performance-based bonuses.
