Job Description

KIPP Chicago is hiring Physical Education teachers to serve our middle schools for SY 24-25.  The position may be full-time (salary, 43 hours/week) or part-time (hourly, 25 hours/week).  Full-time positions will serve two middle schools, proximate to each other, and with a schedule that allows for travel. The part-time position will serve one school 4.5 hours/day, in the morning. The Physical Education teacher must hold an active Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) and endorsement in Physical Education. 

KIPP Chicago seeks Physical Education teachers with a proven track record of structuring a physical education program that includes principles of human movement, motor skills, health-related fitness and training. This candidate will also collaborate with classroom teachers and specialty teachers to ensure a strong culture of student safety and inclusion within the PE setting. 

Specifically, the PE teacher responsibilities include  

  • Follow the daily schedule for each campus with timeliness and exemplary attendance 

  • Utilize the standards-aligned curriculum (SPARK) with fidelity to plan effective lessons 

  • Manage the PE setting with safety at the forefront and include clear routines and procedures. 

  • Cultivate student engagement that support inclusivity, participation, and belonging for all students 

  • Appropriately modify lessons for student ability needs, by grade level. 

  • Align actions and decisions to school-wide student culture expectations 

  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to maximize the positive impact of the PE setting for all students 

  • Practice a growth mindset about own teaching and practice byu reflecting and incorporating feedback towards improvement 

  • Actively Participate in summer orientation (3 weeks) and ongoing professional training.

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Our supports for teachers’ work include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Common behavioral expectations upheld by all school staff and recorded through our student paycheck system with attached school-wide incentives and disincentives

  • Principals and assistant principals who are routinely present throughout the building and day

  • One-on-one meetings with your principal and/or assistant principal once per week to discuss student progress and the teacher’s development

  • Collaboration with grade-level and content teams three afternoons per week

  • A prep period each day

  • Frequent in-building professional development from school leadership

  • Prepared unit plans and unit assessments alongside freedom to plan weekly and daily instruction

  • In-building technology support

  • Highly efficient and thoughtful scheduling, including for special events like field lessons or testing windows

Qualifications

The requirements of Physical Education Teacher are:

  • Active Illinois PEL with Physical Education endorsement (required)

  • Ability to climb stairs, lift 50lbs, and run & move to model student PE expectations (required)

  • Ability to travel to, from, and between campuses with efficiency to ensure on-time arrival (required)

  • A track record of effective PE instruction in an urban setting, Chicago preferred 

  • A Cleared CPS background check before first date of employment (required)
