Position summary: The intern will work directly under the supervision of an Engineer-in-Training or licensed Professional Engineer to complete an array of water resources related design tasks. Individual responsibilities will include plan reviews, CADD modification of engineering drawings, and hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) based computations. Other duties include, but are not limited to, field inspections, project background research, utilization of H&H software to solve engineering problems, technical report preparation, and construction cost estimating. U.S. Residency Required.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in pursuing a career in water resources engineering, which may include H&H watershed analysis; water quality, quantity, and green infrastructure design; storm sewer conduit design; and bridge/culvert hydraulics.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Prepare Hydrologic and Hydraulic Computations
- Make edits and updates to existing engineering drawings and projects
- Coordinate new small-scale projects
- Assemble data and research
- Assist with administrative duties
- Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
- Assist with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects
- Develop and prepare specifications
- Evaluate equipment and material
- Maintain accurate and current project documentation
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Experience
- Full-time undergraduate student in ABET accredited civil, water resources, or environmental engineering program
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Participate in team-based management style
- Willingness to learn and use CADD software (Microstation or Civil 3D) and various H&H specific programs.
Preferred Experience
- Coursework in related field
- Previous internship experience
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 75% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required as needed.
Application will need a valid driver license and mode of transportation to occasionally conduct site visits, field investigations, or inspections.
