Description
General Summary
The work performed involves installing , modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing fire protection systems including electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Must have journeyman or other craftsman-level qualifications for fire protection systems such as NICET Level III, Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems or Special Hazard Suppression System or formalized labor organization journeyman training, or similar.
- Ably to interpret and apply the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and to use trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g. voltage, voltage drop, and current capability in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, poster factor, current flow, and temperature, and length in single and multiple raceways, conduits, gutters, and cable trays.
- Knowledge of operation and installation of a variety of complete fire protection and electrical systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of equipment and supplies needed to insure proper and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment.
- Skilled in use of tools needed to test, maintain, and build equipment.
- Able to use various hand tools and electronic testing equipment.
- Possess a working knowledge of NFPA code, Federal and State regulations applicable to their daily responsibilities.
- Utilizes computers to document inspections and maintenance.
- Maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of assigned spaces and the workshop, assist the maintenance team, as required, and perform other duties assigned.
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Possess a broad knowledge of facility operations and maintenance
- Experience with a Facility Computerized Maintenance Management System software (CMMS) highly desired.
Work Environment
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions. Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but non to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
- Must be able to pass a local background check and have the ability to obtain and maintain NAC/LAC clearance after hire.
