Dance Instructors

The Stamford JCC Performing Arts Department is seeking passionate and talented individuals to join our Dance Faculty as Lead Instructors for the 2025-2026 Season in the following areas:

  • Ballet (Mondays & Thursdays - K-1st grade)
  • Contemporary (Tuesdays)
  • Tap (Mondays)
  • Hip Hop (Wednesdays)
  • Jr Company * (Mondays - see below description)

Applicants will be considered for all styles/classes which they are interested in and available for. Please note your area of interest in your application. Applicants must have a passion for working with children and strong skills in choreography.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach engaging dance classes that foster joy while working towards the goal of technical advancement at an age-appropriate level
  • Choreograph and teach original material for Performing Arts recitals and productions
  • Attend and assist with Performing Arts performances and events
  • Complete student evaluations at the end of the season
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Operations Performing Arts, Senior Director of Programming, and JCC CEO

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of successful teaching experience in dance
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred, or 3 + years of professional dance experience
  • A strong background in dance technique, 10+ years of training
  • Must be available to teach weekday afternoons and early evenings, as well as occasional weekends as recitals and special events require.
  • Must be able to collaborate & communicate well with a team
  • Ability to liaise in a professional manner with parents and students

Jr Company:

In addition to the technique classes listed, we are seeking a strong dance instructor to lead one division of our Jr Company. The Jr Company is divided into two cohorts composed of our most dedicated group of dance students who participate in additional performance opportunities throughout the year. The Jr. Company Instructor position requires teaching the once weekly meeting of Jr Company 1 on Monday evenings. This class consists of teaching a jazz or contemporary based warm up followed by a combination or work on group choreography for seasonal shows. The ideal candidate would also have the ability and availability to choreograph solo and small group pieces and lead those rehearsals on other days of the week as needed for seasonal performances. The position is a teaching and choreography-centered position with some production and administrative support involved. Applicants must have a passion for working with children, with strong technique, strong skills in choreography, and the ability to work collaboratively with the Jr Company 2 instructor and Performing Arts team.

Salary:

  • $55/hr for lead instruction
  • $25/hr for assisting
  • $20/hr for any required work outside of the classroom such as staff meetings and dress rehearsals
