JOB SUMMARY
Conducts electrical engineering activities related to product design and integration of Propulsion and Platform components into vehicle level systems (i.e. subsystem/component design and drawing creation), engineering specification creation/reviews, engineering cost estimates, estimating development timing, and supporting testing for appropriate projects. Provides support on supplier design issues, problem resolutions, engineering evaluations, data analysis, engineering changes, and component timing. Provides engineering assistance to Isuzu related companies, departments and partners as necessary.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides apportioned subsystems & components designs (concept to production release).
2. Controls all assigned 3D math, including vehicle level component integration designs & detailed drawings, per company criteria, to support the vehicle development process.
3. Assists with technical meetings with Propulsion and Platform component suppliers: GM, Cummins, Isuzu-Japan, Isuzu-North America /Isuzu vendors, and others when needed.
4. Makes effective decisions to meet individual program gate reviews and overall vehicle program schedules. Reports activities and decisions to assigned mentor and/or management for direction and/or approvals.
5. Communicates effectively with Isuzu Japan (ISZJ) engineering, suppliers, manufacturing production facilities, joint venture partners, and other parties based on teamwork concepts.
6. Maintains responsible Engineering Parts List (EPL) & required assembly documents to support downstream customers including Purchasing, Validation, Manufacturing, etc.
7. Continuously evaluates technical content, with quality improvement, cost reduction, part reuse and ease of manufacturing/service as key objectives.
8. Cooperates with suppliers or other departments to achieve established targets on schedule.
9. Analyzes new technologies and market driven trends. Prepares informational reports and research findings to management in both the U.S. and in Japan, when necessary.
10. Collaborates with other Isuzu companies, partners and departments in sharing technical documentation to support Isuzu’s collective/global objectives.
11. Investigates North American (NA) Commercial Vehicle (CV) competitors’ vehicles or specific subsystems for competitive engineering research. Prepares presentations for review and information sharing when requested.
12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Science or related degree; MSEE or related Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience in automotive electrical subsystem design engineering or equivalent
- Familiarity with the electrical components in Platform and Propulsion systems
- Understanding of how these systems are combined and integrated into a vehicle’s electrical architecture
- Able to understand Interface Control Documents and Mechanization diagrams
KNOWLEDGE
- Development of automotive electrical parts (Control and Gateway Modules, wire harnesses, starter, alternator, sensors), ADAS, CAN communications, and vehicle subsystems. Integration of Propulsion and Platform electrical components and systems into vehicle electrical architecture
- Automotive parts knowledge for material selection, production processes, test methods, regulations, and component/sub-system design development process
- Familiarity with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)/American Standard Test Method (ASTM)
- Basic operational skills with CAD/CAM design systems (i.e. Semens NX, TcAE, Capital)
- Familiarity with simulation software and common diagnostic equipment
- Basic component drawing understanding and GD&T knowledge
- Familiarity with BOM, FMEA, ECR process, & Root Cause analysis
- Problem solving skills (5-Why, 8D, Fishbone diagrams)
- Additional knowledge of vehicle electrification (electric, hybrid, ADAS, autonomous) vehicle integration is helpful
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficient PC skills in Windows applications/Microsoft Office and presentation applications
- Proficient with multi-meter, oscilloscope (PicoScope software), basic hand tools
- Familiar with the construction of SOR / SOW and other specification writing tools
- Self-motivated, multi-tasking, and time management skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to sketch, interpret drawings and utilize 3D virtual designs
- Investigative and research skills such as benchmarking, internet search techniques, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Cross cultural communication experience is desirable
- Preferable to be able to obtain and keep a commercial driving license and medical certificate
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of office files, reports or records, typically weighing 5 lbs. or less. Requires occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs.) and on rare occasions, heavy lifting (60 lbs.). Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Position requires 5 - 10% domestic and international travel, including overnight stays.
We are looking for up to a Senior level engineer. The pay scale for an Engineer I in this role is $76,302 to $95,378. The pay scale for an Engineer II in this role is $83,032 to $105,866. The pay scale for a Sr. Engineer in this role is $92,161 to $117,505. The base salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, such as relevant experience and education.
