Job Summary
Collaborates with Nurse Educators to plan and develop educational programs and materials, and provides education and training to clinical and non-clinical staff in the classroom, simulation lab and clinical environments utilizing an approved curriculum. Facilitates orientation of nursing department employees, participates in teaching educational content as part of continuing education and in-service programs and participate in annual validation of competencies.
Essential Job Functions
- Collaborates with Nurse Educators to plan, develop evaluate and revise education program content.
- Delivers pre-approved educational content for new staff orientation.
- Teaches pre-established curriculum content in both classroom and clinical areas utilizing appropriate teaching strategies, technology and adult learning principles.
- Contributes to the development of teaching materials.
- Serves as a resource to the nursing team to ensure clinical competency and clinical standards are maintained.
- Interacts with instructors of affiliating schools to assure student affiliations and/or observations are accomplished in accordance with standards.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
- Effective January 1, 2015 required BSN with hire or obtain within four (4) years from date of hire.
- Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
- Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
Licensure, Certifications and Clearances
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program required.
- BLS Instructor certification completed within six months of hire into department.
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred (enrollment in a Master’s Degree program in Nursing, Education or related field)
- Teaching experience in a hospital setting or nursing academic setting
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.)
- Travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.
